Looks great! Nothing like a little TLC. I'm really impressed with the interior paint, you'd never know by looking at the pictures.

Pushing the limitations 😳 excuse for GT2 flares 😬

Esm 18x8.5 and 18x11.. Tires are 235/40/18 and 285/35/18 had a hard time finding the sizes I wanted without giving up my first born but these were close.

Would you have any interest in an adjustable cam gear for your 944S engine?

Well due to Covid-19 I have been home this week and decided to work on my build. It’s been a while since I last updated but currently I am doing an Outlaw 944 build. I am still playing to do a v8 swap but may stick with the 4 banger due to how the car diet goes. I am calling this a 944 RS or 944 S4 (if I do the v8.. 4 meaning 4 extra cylinders)

Things Stripped So Far:
Back Seat Full
All Sound Deadening Material In Rear
Rear Carpet (Going Felt Light Weight All Around)
Spare Tire
Rear Wiper Motor Assembly
Front Bumper (Currently Just 951 Cover On, No Fogs, No Aluminum Bar)
Washer Res
Sunroof Motor (Converting To Manual)
Speakers
Radio
Rear Bumper

Next:
Cruise Control
Power Driver Seat Which To Manual
All Front Sound Deadening
Map/Armrests?
Hood
Hatch Motor
A/C
Power Steering (Depowed or Manual)
Brake Booster? (Manual Setup)

Goal is to keep a somewhat stock basic appearance but cut a few hundred pounds if possible. Stock I saw listed at 2866lbs and would like to get to 2600 and under. Ambitious I know especially with a stockish appearance.

Fiberglass hood and rear bumper will be installed as well. Would love to do a tinted lexan rear hatch but not sure I can fly with that one.

Just took it out for a spin and the butt dyno is rather pleased. Feels more torquey, pushes me back more. I’m be curious once I remove everything I’m seeking to see how it feels, overall pretty impressed with the result.

C,
How did you manage to trim the fenders so expertly?
Any tips?
I totally botched Wilsons. And will at some point be on the list for a re-do.
Yours looks pro.

Have you weighed that pile of interior bits? I’d be curious to know what that amounts to...or un-amounts to.

I haven’t weighed them but can do so via bathroom scale. The rubber sound deadening in the rear had to be close to 15-20lbs alone. Not including the carpet and rear bumper I took off.

I made a template with the 951 bumper and a piece of card stock. Then transfer it to the fender and used a cutoff wheel to remove the metal. I need to rework it a little more but
not bad for the first go.

Outlaw is where mine is headed as well. Those power seats are a lot of weight. Keep up the good work!

Test fitting fiberglass rear seat delete. Pulled out some more sound deadening in the front at the foot wells (roughly 15lbs) and took out the passenger seat (it will go back in but gives me an idea of what 25lbs removed will be like lol). Today I may weigh a few things to get a better idea but I imagine close to 150-200lbs gone but I added heavier wheels. Still have a few things to remove and getting some fiberglass parts soon as well (gt2 flares, read bumper, hood eventually). Car is a blast to drive now, a little more acceleration and response, honestly makes me question the v8 swap but we will see. Some cams, exhaust and mega squirt and this thing would be a hoot for street/city driving.

Love those wheels! What offset are those wheels?

You may be able to gain some clearance with a bit of camber on both the front and rear. There are some posts on recommended camber setting somewhere on here. I’ll try to find what I set up on my car. I have 18x8 front and 18x10 rear with 225/40s and 265/35s and no problems with rubbing or clearance.

Also, I have a DIYPnP kit for sale on eBay right now. It includes a completely rebuilt engine wiring harness specifically for the 944S if you’re interested

Nice build! Your S and mine have pretty similar goals with just weight reduction and keep the revs up. One thing I have thought about is putting a non s na gearbox in as I think they messed up the s gearing. The fact that they ran the turbo ratios and na final drive shows they didn't make a box for this car but just used what was on hand. I suspect some of the engineered slowness to avoid competing with the higher cost turbo. Also back in the 80s autobahn top speed specs were much more of a sales pitch than 0-60 is now (plus german buyers actually used top speed legally unlike us) I would try this but don't want to give up the lsd I have. Instead I'll try some small 15inch R compound tires in either 225 45 or 225 50. The downside will be 5th gear on the highway. The na box has a much better 5th for smaller tires.

Did you ever end up putting the aluminum bar behind the turbo bumper? Does it fit properly without it or do you have to build some brackets?
