Many of these coins were stored in Coca Cola to clean them at the turn of millennium and were consequently destroyed.

OK, I have a 1988 Porsche 944 Special Edition Medal. Much larger than a coin (about 2.5 inches in diameter). It came with the Silver 944 Special Edition I bought new in early 1989. Sold the car in 96 or 97 after getting a 993. Anyway I found it today in the back of my desk drawer. Anyone interested?

Thanks to Crossbow, it seems I'm the new owner of a 1988 Celebration Medallion! I say Medallion because it is one sided, nothing on the back. I wouldn't consider a one-sided metal piece a 'coin'. I'll admit after owning two different 1988 Celebration editions, and reading about them in books and online, I had my doubts the medallions were distributed with all of the Celebration cars. In Europe, sure, maybe, that would explain the few on the market. However, crossbow vouched he bought his 1988 944 new in Feb of 1989 and the medallion was in the glove box. He could not recall if it was set into the inlay in the glovebox door or just loose in with the documents. Either way, I have validated in my own mind these medallions came with the cars and I've got one to fit in my 1988. If I were to cast a mold and make some reproduction 'medallions', would anybody be interested? I don't have much casting experience but if I make a decent replica my original coin would be up for sale (after I killed the market) to someone who really wanted the correct part for their worthy 88 CE.
Thanks CB!

This medallion is amazing how big it is! There is a lot of detail in the car, I doubt I'll be able to reproduce it worthwhile. I was also surprised by the back, I didn't expect that.

This special edition coin looks superb in the glove compartment. Someone should cast it or 3D and make copies to sell for all the rest of us mortals !!! I bet there would a lot of demand for them coins for the 944 and 924S..... ;-)

Congratulations, Dan. I need to check this forum more often. I'm still desperate to find one, so I hope there's another out there somewhere. In the meantime I would be very happy with a re-pop if anyone who has one has a way to accomplish making one.

Still looking. Hoping lightning will strike twice and there's someone out there with a medallion for me. Thanks. Bill
