Default EVER broken down?

Seeing the other post there got me thinking....

How many of you have EVER broken down roadside in your 944? If so, why?

Only time mine has ever left me stranded was when the starter died.

Stranded? Nope.

Everytime my car has broken it either did so at the bottom of my driveway or in it.

Mine left me at HEB when the timing belt decided to loose it's teeth. My fault though for installing it wrong.

You should have made it multiple choice.

My car broke down once when something broke (clutch) and once when it was my fault (driving through a river with bad electrical components).

I'd answer this question, but I don't want to jinx myself...

In my year and a half driving my 924S, its never given me and problems with breaking down, always starts even during the -5 degree days we had a few weeks ago. There were a number of things that could have caused some serious failure, but still it never gave me problems. I have no idea when the belts were changed when i bought the car, i drove the car for just under a year (a gamble i know). Did the entire front end service in August, my father bought it in Sept. of 2002. The alternator strut was broken, one of the bolts was broken and was only holding together due to the belts tension. It broke in two right as i gave it a easy turn with a wrench.

Drove for over 200 miles with the rear cam housing held on by one bolt. It wasnt even losing that much oil, the only reason i noticed it was because there was a very slow oil drip after the car was shut off that dripped onto the headers causing a smokey (and foul smelling) engine bay.

Id say these cars are solid as a rock as long as you keep up with the schedualed maitenence. But that goes for almost any car really.

Once I can remember in my 83 car, the fan switch broke and stayed on and drained the battery...I found out too late...thank you, BCAA!
But NEVER in my 86...that car is tiptop..

In 20 years of ownership, only failure was a blowout at speed (OE Dunlops) on I10 at 3:00 am. The blowout was scary but not as bad as having to change to the collapsible spare in the dark on the access road!

Carl, care to describe what the blowout was like? I always wondered what one would experience with that happening.
