You can commonly find it at paint supply stores as stoneguard. They do have it in some colors, but on the 944 it's applied underneath the paint. Germans usually call it body shutz.

what about usint the new stuff that is smooth, clear and that you can buy in sheets and apply over the paint? Would that stuff work as well in that area? I think it would look better.

You spray it on and let it dry for 4-5 hours than sand with 80 grit. Use a paint degreaser to clean the panel and paint. I've got in on the GT fiberglass frontend, along the lower rocker panels and up the front portion of the rear flares, also from GT Racing. BTW, I've built a 924GTS replica and I'll be showing it off at the 24 Hours this weekend at Daytona.

Any pictures by any chance? My 944 NA's stone guard started deteroriating too, but I never got around to fixing it. If you drive the car in winter, make sure to not let it sit with salt/snow/grime on it, cause that's what did the number on mine.

Hey;

It is a product marketed by Wurth, manufactured by AutoFit (IIRC). It is a rubberized rocker shutz. It is different from the underbody shutz, as it is thinner and sprays on smoother. There are other "similar" products out there, but they may not match the OE appearence or durability. It is NOT easy to get the OE texture. It takes some practice. Some of the more modern versions can be tinted to more closely approximate body color which helps hide scrapes and chips. It comes in black or tan.

Clear 3M film is NOT easy to install, will not go around corners, and is expensive. NOT a good solution for this application.

That's a helluva tease.
Have you got any pics for those of us that are stuck in the snowy part of the country?
