Need Opinions - Dead 89' 944 Turbo

If the car is a primo example and fully documented you'll want to save that original engine. otherwise, I would wait and go the used engine route. One will show up and that option will be your cheapest. remove and replace.

From: one thousand, five hundred miles north of Ft. Lauderdale for the summer.
Why would I ever give an 89' Turbo "S spec" with a long list of amazing options away for $2500? That's just dumb. People are selling sport seats for that price, so I would rather do that and part the car out for $7k+ USD and take the shell to the junkyard then sell it to you for that money. Either that or take the entire car to the junkyard as is just not to sell it to you for $2500.
This is why a few guys like Lart buy 'em for $2,500 and part 'em out.
He's got the store and distribution set up.
He'll have half the car shipped off to parts unknown (NZ & Australia) within days.
When the mortgage is late and owners got their wives yelling at them
"no, you ain't going to get another engine.....
"Just get rid of it."
That's how this plays out 9 out of 10......
We pray for them.
It was predicted many years ago (post #48) here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...l#post10573196
when the fleet had begun passing into the 'afterworld,' suffered by cars that,
in the end, weren't too 'iconic.'
Owners crossed a point where repair costs well exceeded the values of
the cars, and the loose "brain trust" of e-helpers had begun to fall away.
Everyone claimed undying love for these cars, and all their "accessories..."
But the tsunami came, and took them away.
They all said it would never happen (to them).
But, most have since departed.
The sole occasion is when the guy lights a fire under his belly
to go out and spend $23,000 (less or more) on a new engine
only to (in the not distant future) get even more hurt.
Yeah, we've seen the 'play,' what 3, 4 dozen times.
As the old engines slowly die out..... some of the vehicles will nonetheless
be revived by what few engines remain.
Some will get v8's---and be driven daily (up and down) the Eastern Seaboard
for pure enjoyment, stoutness, superior handling & the 'A-rated' reliability.
Stories will be written about them, and the many
festivals, & celebrations at Cars & Coffee on the PCH....... .

New engine's in the car, it's a Turbo S long Block from an 88'. Not sure how mortgage payments came into the discussion but if you have a 4th car and you can't make mortgage payments, my suggestion would be to revisit one's priorities.
