Torsion springs on headlight mechanism?
Anybody know what they're for?
Best I can figure is that they give the two lights some measure of independence from eachother (in case of jamming or something) since they are linked.
As far as I can tell no other car with pop-up lights uses any spring mechanism (Miata, F-body, 240SX, etc), just individual motors and "solid rods".
Looking to modify the stock mechanism and might need to delete the springs.

When the headlight mechanics is in the full up position, the springs allow the headlight frame (either side) to rest against the stop and not shake under road vibration.
If you remove the springs, the headlights will either 1) be loose and cause the headlights to shake, or 2) be too tight and cause excess wear on the phenolic gear inside the headlight motor.
I would either leave it as designed, or convert to a 924 Carrera GT type fixed headlight.
