Default wheel locks

Ok, this is as*, I took the car for a test drive and noticed that the brakes could at least use a bleeding, I took the passenger side wheel off and then went to take then drivers side off, theres this lock thing on it, I don't have a key either. Is there a way to get this f@#ker off without the key? I've heard that Porsche will not make another key either.

If you dont mind destroying the lock you can just take vicegrips and clamp on to the round black part twist and pull that sucker right off

I lost my key and was in a similar perdiciment a few years ago. I was on vacation and needed to replace a tire before my trip back. I took it to a Porsche dealership and they removed them for me and replaced the key locks with the updated ones which use a specialy grooved lug nut and removal socket. I went to the dealer because I had to get them off and didn't have my tools. Plus, I didn't know any reputable mechanics in the area.

All they did was drill the locks out, remove the old ones and replace them with the new ones.

Most Porsche mechanics are able to do this since this is a very common problem. I would buy the wheel locks online and have the mechanics put them on for you. When I think about how much I overpaid for my Porsche wheel locks at the dealer it makes me sick!

Hope this helps.

Nikko, I am pretty sure you have to drill the lock out first. Plyers should only work if the locks aren't fully locked. I'm glad you posted since I left that part of the procedure out.

I said I "lost my key" to simplify my answer. The real problem was that I left my key at home by accident. When I realized I was screwed due to my own stupidity, I was in a pretty good rage. I am 6'3 260 pounds and in a rage with a pair of plyers, and I couldn't the one I needed to come off.

Maybe it was just that one that wasn't going to budge... I didn't try the others.

I would definetly try your approach before drilling them out since your way would mean less work, and the locks will be destroyed in the end no matter what.

I don't care about the locks, I NEED to get to theses brakes before I even drive it to the STP to get an alignment. I'll try pulling them off before I drill them.

I got them off, what a bitch. And whoever had put the lugs on overtightened them. I bent one of my lug wrenchs into about a 65* angle.

Are you serious!! Holy smokes!! When you go to put them back on, tighten them to 94 Ft-Lb.

They are really easy to rake-pick with a set of small screwdrivers also.

Shoot, this is another post I should keep in in a text file on my computer.

If you have the factory locks, all you need is a cold chisel, a hammer, and about 2 minutes total. Seriously.

My car was a boneyard refuge (but straight and complete). I didn't get the key for the locks. Didn't need it.

Pop the cap.
Put the cold chisel in the groove.
Give the chisel a good rap with the hammer - the top will pop off (in face, wear safety glasses, I'm not kidding).
Pull the lock cylinder out
Remove the outer cylindrical piece
Game over.

About 30 seconds per wheel. Yeah. No kidding. Those locks don't protect anything. Scrap them and get something better.
