porschehead, congratulations on "happening" on such a great piece of American Porsche history. I read the articles in Pano about Holbert and I can't imagine how exciting it must be to own one of his track cars! Wow!

Damn, can't we all just type in Swedish - it would be som much easier to understand..
Naw, they are manual mirrors. They are the same ones I have on my car.

Very cool. As someone mentioned, I own the WR setting 928 porsche driven by al holbert in 1987, later relagated to an IMSA pace car for 10 years. I re-caged it and turned it into a SpeedGT/SCCA ITE/PCA GT2 racer!!

Still has the original motor, as I found it, with only 18,000 original (but hard ) miles. 2 seasons, and still running strong. not a bolt on the engine touched (except putting on racing headers and changing the timing belt) since i put the car together as a race car.

great to own this type of Porsche history!!

Hi Sean,
Glad to see you made it to this board. Thanks for hooking me up with Masaya. He didn't have the info I needed for my car, but pointed me in another direction.

To catch everyone else up: My 944na is claimed to be the one that won the Firehawk championship in '85. I've emailed Jon Milledge, one of the drivers of the car that year, and it matches his description of the car. I still need to call Carlsen in Redwood City and see if they kept records of the cars they used. Here's a picture of mine in it's former glory. It has been repainted many times since then, I'm thinking of repainting it this way for it's 20th anniversary next year.

Sean,

Congratulations on a really great find! I have to ask - how did you come across the car? Ad in a newspaper or magazine?

Scott and I have been looking for a 951 salvage car, but we haven't been successfull in locating one yet. Much less an ex-factory race car...

It sounds like the car is restorable, and the body and interior look to be in pretty good shape. How's the engine and powertrain? How does a great car like that end up being sold as an anonymous parts car?

Best regards,

Because 944s aren't real Porsches. Didn't you know that?!

We know... You make sure to tell all of us about your car and the fact that you race in Speed GT just about everytime you post, regardless of the topic. Most of us are reading this thread because we are interested in PorscheHead's outstanding and rare find.

Frankly, it's getting old.

Yes windows and side view mirrors are manual I suppose for
weight savings.

I'm waiting for shots of the car at Mosport in 86 with the original
Rothmans/ #14 livery. Hope to get them in the next week or so.
Will try to post them.

Thanks, Sean

Yes found the car in a local S.C. Trader publication like you might find at a gas station. More details at rennlist "Genera" forum or
info and photos @ www.944central.com go to Seans photo page

Thanks
