Default Wacky oil pressuer cant make up its mind!

So once my oil is fully warmed up, my oil pressure will hover steady at 2 bar for half a second then bounce wildly from .5 bar to 2.5 bar for the next half second and repeat.
I've have a new VDO sending unit and OPRV and I've checked the wiring connections. The PO had the rod bearings done prior to selling as well. Assuming they did a good job, what do you think?

I think it's electrical. (and not to worry about it)

I suppose I was wondering if this could be a symptom of a cracked oil pick up?

Sounds electrical to me too. I think a cracked oil pickup would just show a low pressure, not one that bounces wildly within half a second.

Plug in a manual meeter and check.
Then check the wiring and the cluster.

A mechanical oil pressure gauge would have to connect to some part of the oil system. So you'd have to get something like a filter sandwich plate, or find some other place to tap in.

Before doing all that, if you have any skills in electrical/electronics I would check the signal at the gauge with a DMM. If the signal there is steady, the problem might be your gauge. I think the signal is a voltage but don't quote me on that.

I've seen bad solder joints on the backs of these gauges, so it could be a simple fix.

What should be the behavior of the oil pressure gauge? I think mine is behaving inconsistent.. when I start the car the gauge is very close to 5 and will then drop and flicker at the halfway point. Then will shoot back up. I took the car for a longer than normal drive last week (1.5 hrs) on the highway and that gauge was pretty consistently at 4/4.5. When I got off the highway on regular stop n go streets it dropped. Not sure what it's supposed to do and what I should look into if what I explained isn't normal.
