Default Replacement Parts

I'm putting together my list of items of things I want to tackle myself. When it comes to purchasing parts I have quite a few different sources that sell them, which you all probably use as well. When you search and find the parts on these sites they offer several different makes and then there's 'Porsche'. What's the rule of thumb for what brand of replacement parts to use?

very few items you should get from Porsche or Porsche-branded directly.
motor mounts are the big one, and they stock a lot of obscure stuff that the parts suppliers don't normally have (misc body parts)

Victor Reinz is the only one making gaskets...any other brand is just somebody's sticker on Reinz parts.
INA is the only one making timing belt pulleys...same deal as above.

URO is hit or miss depending on the parts.
FAE, ***, Bosch, Denso are good ones.

So for the tune up related items and a windshield washer pump do those matter? I don't mean it doesn't matter, but I'd deem those parts as probably less critical.

944Online and Pelican Parts are two great sources to help you.

Yes, I'm all over those sites. However, they offer multiple options of the same part from different brands and with some of them the price differences are signifigant.

+1 fo this question. I tend to go here and Clark’s Garage for how-to and then google for the recommended parts. Always surprised by the variety prices and brands and not always sure what would be the best option. Watching this thread.

Stay away from Uro on any critical part, and do not use ANYTHING by Hamburg Technik! For electrical stuff, stick with Bosch. Bosch isn't what it used to be, but it's still better than most anything else out there.

An example is for spark plug/ignition wires. I see these ranging from $75 - $160. I'm considering buying these from Pelican.. Clewett Engineering High Performance Ignition Wires - RED for $89. The reviews are all positive, so I'm trying to understand what the difference between those and the $150 ones are.

Another discrepancy is with an ignition rotor. Bosh is $54 and Beru is $16. I thought Beru was a decent brand. Not understanding why the huge cost difference. Any guidance would be helpful.

I ended up using https://www.getporscheparts.com/ for my little headlight washer nozzle because it was a little cheaper than other sites with shipping. Amazon has really ruined me because I cry whenever I have to pay for shipping and it's doesn't come in 2 days! But i'm guessing every part with vary from site to site. I guess the search is half the fun! Paying not so much.

we usually like to shop at a 944 specialist because at least they can give you some guidance as to the best part for the money AND some tech advice along the way. Years ago there was only one company that made a certain part and that company would also sell it to Porsche. That is when we could advertise under only one part number and the customer would get a top quality GERMAN part. These days. with the Chinese copying EVERYTHING one has to really watch what you are buying. So as per our agreement with Porsche we have put prefixes on all of the part numbers. G means you are getting the real thing.

I agree with V2 the URO is hit and miss, but really now hitting more than missing. Nothing wrong with top quality used parts and Ian at on line or AL at parts heaven are two of the best for those parts

Also, remember pelicanparts.com and paragon-products.com. Jason does top-notch service at Paragon. I also buy OEM parts from Sunset Porsche in Portland, OR. Their prices are significantly better than the average dealer. Seems like a lot of the stuff I am needing lately is only available from the dealer.

Check us out for Genuine Porsche Parts & Accessories! We're a Porsche dealership that gives a very healthy discount when you shop with us online at getPorscheparts.com! We're also currently shipping most orders $299+ at no charge within the US, and we have a Price Match Promise (details here) if another vendor has a better all in price on the identical parts. Compare our pricing on Genuine Porsche parts to aftermarket parts - a lot of the time we're competitive (and even less!) than those offering inferior aftermarket components. Thanks!

Hmmm... The above reminds me of the "other brand" of German Parts available via online distributor, that I've had very good experiences with. I hope it's the same group.
