Default throttle response cam

wow, for 30 bucks i thought this would be bigger! lol

seeing this peice in person i now lack its effectiveness...i knew it wouldnt be much...but i thought the radius would be larger then that of the original odd shaped piece...am i thinking backwards??

this baby has a 2.5 inch diameter....

DOHH!!!...no, smaller diameter would mean more movement per/ throttle cable movement, rite

anyways........has anyone felt a noticable difference with this piece...i know its just response...just makes your foot make your brain think things are going faster lol....but even enough to feel a difference?

Smaller diameter means more pedal movement. So, yeah, it does shorten it.

Most people seem to swear by them, while others don't. I put one in my car, but since I then proceeded to spend the next few weeks stripping it for repainting, well, I never had the back-to-back comparison. But I can definately see how the pedal travel is smaller.

The real benefit is that less movement of the foot makes it easier to blip the throttle when downshifting. The angle of your ankle at a particular cruising speed may also be more comfortable.

I haven't installed the red throttle response cam that came with the car (partly because I don't like the color), but I thought I heard somewhere that this could actually lower your gas mileage? Don't know how, unless it is because of the "blipping the throttle" that Tom is referring to.

It also takes away the 'spongy' feel of the pedal. I can barley remember what the stock throttle cam felt like on the car, but i do remember the difference it made in throttle response.

Hey;

There will be a VERY noticeable increase in throttle response, which is good. I simply reindexed my OE cam and drilled new holes for the cable end and index pin. Cost, $0.

I once tried it back in the stock location and found it utterly undriveable!!!

I've driven my father's early '85 ( OE ) and mine w/ the throttle response cam....huge difference! My father drove mine and wanted to know why my car felt so much more powerful ( especially since his car is in 100x better shape then mine)....it's not...just feels better!

What adjustments need to be done, and how are they accomplished, to the throttle cable if I decide to install the throttle response cam I have.
Anything besides the cable that needs adjusting?

Nope, just use the adjuster barrel on the firewall to take any slack out of the cable.

I found it to be some of the best money spent on my old 924S. It just feels more direct. The stock cam is vague kinda like the worn out shifter thing. It just feels more positive and like I'ld never want to drive a 944 without one.

The drilling/reindexing of the stock cam sounds like a cool idea as well.

If you don't want to ruin your current one just flip it upside down and drill the hole that the metal tab fits though. That is what I did on mine to try it out. If you don't like it you can flip it back over and go back to normal.
