Default Heavy Rain and my car is leaking.

OK so my sunroof leaks and thats not a problem, I can see it and have the parts on order. great so I was feeling pretty good about myself until this morning.

Every time i took a left hand turn with any speed about a 1/2 cup of water would spill on to the passenger side foot well . after it happend once I was like oh snap i need to see where that was coming from but after like the 10th turn and it was still coming out i was like what the heck how could i be holding that much water in my dash.

I popped the hood to see if i could see a huge place where the water might be sitting. with no luck everything looks dry under there including around the battery. it seems like it must be in the HVAC system inside the dash somewhere. anyone have any ideas. I felt around under the dash and there is a black 1" tube sticking out from the bottom on the dash and I think that is where the water is coming from.

Thoughts?

Pull the battery and check that whole area really well. That's a very common place for these cars to rust and allow water in. It doesn't take a very big hole to allow a lot of water to pour in. While you are in there make sure to clean out the drainage tubes that allow the water out of that area.

I wouldn't imagine that tube going out the bottom would allow that much water in but there is a chance that seal crumbled and fell out in which case there would be about an 1/8" gap around that hose to the outside of the car so I suppose that could be a possibility.

Sounds good I will take a look. I am just at work now or I would have the whole area taken apart by now. I can not have that much water in my car. also buying a car cover today. I will toss it on the car when I know it will rain over night again.

Are you using AC?

The drain plug for the condenser can plug too, then it fills up with water and then the water comes out the Ac Vents. First vent that it happens to is the vent inside the glove box. I can't remember, but I think you have to take the radio out to get to it.

There is supposed to be a short 6" hose that connects the nipple under the HVAC evaporator to the outside drain on the floor pan. Suspect your hose has gone MIA.

Thanks, Where is that located? bottom center of the dash behind the radio? I dont know if mine is missing as much as plugged and the water is spilling out the side. Here is where the water is coming from right now.

I just found and fixed two holes under my battery. The battery sits right on the sheetmetal, so there must've been some acid drips in the past. I quick fixed it by sanding all the rust off and using some JB Weld to fill the holes. Then I painted the area to protect the sheetmetal. Someday I'll go back in there an weld some metal in like a proper repair...
