Default Water Pump Update Install

Morning All,

Replacing the belts/rollers and updating the water pump on my 1984 944 NA. It still has the old style water pump on it so Ive decided to install the updated. I put together a list off of Zims and wanted to check if it looks like I have everything I will need. I do already have a new Wahler thermostat at home, so thats not needed. Does this all look correct. Thanks for the insight.

Make sure you get the thin-type thermostat seal and the black plastic 46mm timing belt roller.

Cool. The Wahler thermostat I have at home did come with the thick and thin seal so I think Im good on that. Now on to finding the belts/rollers. Looks like Paragon has a good kit of belts and rollers, the belts being Gates (which seems to be the preferred brand, If not going genuine Porsche). Thanks V2Rocket!

FWIW the new pump I used required the thicker seal. Clarks:"The correct thermostat is determined by whether you have a new type water pump or old type water pump. With the old style thermostat, the groove for the thermostat snap ring is 4.5 mm from the thermostat sealing surface inside the water pump housing. With the new style, the groove is 7 mm from the sealing surface".

That's not always the case. New style pumps can be 4.5 mm from the thermostat sealing surface also.

So is it a different thermostat that is needed all together? of is it just a matter of which seal to use? I have a Wahler P/N: 94410612905 that has both thin and thick seals.

I ordered the black water pump gasket, is any sealant required with that or just install dry? Also any sort of thread sealant recommended for the water pump bolts?
Thanks

Water pump was delivered today! Is this normal? Looks like 2 large dents on the back.

dont worry about it.
it's cast aluminum, it wouldn't dent like that if it were damage.
cast = cracks.

Anyone know if theres a way to tell if a water pump is new or remanufactured? I purchased a NEW pump from zims and bought a gasket as it stated the gasket was not included with a new unit but included with the remanufactured unit. Well, when I opened the box to my surprise there were two gaskets in there, a thin green one and a thicker black one (the black one also being torn in two places from the pump shifting during shipping). So now I am suspicious as to whether I got the NEW pump that I paid more for since I received two gaskets. So is there a way to tell the difference? There are also a lot of scratches on the mating surface of the pump which has me worried...

Thank You

I bought a new pump from them and it came with the black gasket in the box which was damaged. Thankfully I ordered a (green) gasket.
