Again, I find myself strongly considering putting a nitrous system on the 944. It seem NOS has a system for it, and if properly installed, does no damage. My engine and everything is now in top working order, and that extra kick would be great.
Every once in a while, be it a entry way ramp to the highway, a long deserted straight-a-way, a Friday night on "the belt" or an evening at the local drag strip (not for lanching though - I baby the car on launches), I think it would be a total blast.
Has anyone else put nitrous on an NA and what has been your experience?
I searched the archives and did not find much -
Thank you in advance,
Steve

Have you thought about one of the new electric turbos?

Thats a joke BTW. Just brings back memories of the guy that was selling bilge fans on ebay as electric turbos.

I did consider a centrifical blower, but nitrous seems like the very best bang for the buck. Just hope someone who has actually done it could provide some feedback.

Yes, we have had the same system mounted on both a 83 2.5L NA and the 968 engine. We started out with a simple 50 shot and advanced to a rpm controlled dual setup.
The great thing is that it is instant power, not 50HP on the max power meening a gradual increase up to 50hp extra. But 50 EXTRA horses all the way from 3000rpm and up.
It is very simple and provides an enormous bang per buck and effort. The thing to watch out for though is getting a too lean mixture. We destroyed the 2.5L that way (detonation and blown piston), but that would have been avoided with a Fuel/air ratio meter which would have made us installed larger fuel nozzles. Also the newer engines have knock sensors which would have prevented the engine failure.
Make sure you order extra nozzles in different sizes for both nitous and fuel so you can adjust to get the perfect mixture.
Unless you are a complete novice you can do this safely.
Edit: The 2.5L accident happened with the dual setup making it a total of some 110 extra HP with just a bit too lean a mixture. The 968 engine ran great with the same system with 130HP extra. We had it until we decided to turbocharge it. At 130HP extra those bottles empty out pretty quickly.

No tto mention when you presurize a non turbo car, unregulated it's a good way to find oil leaks.
Did it with an AC fan on my Ramcharger. Don't think I gained 1 HP, but I leaked butt loads of oil

You can easily get a 50 shot NOS running safely without individual jets for each cylinder, rpm control, bottle heater and all the accessories. That is needed when you are tuning at the limits of the engine. A 50 shot on a 944 2.5LNA is easilly handled and needs no acessories exept a right fuelmixture which you need a air/fuel meter to determine.
