Gonna do my engine mounts. Been studying Clark's Garage how-to, but its for Turbo and my car is NA. Question: Is the engine mount replacement procedure any different for the NA than for the Turbo? I seem to recall that I read somewhere that you don't have to remove the front cross member for this job on the NA, but I now can't find anything anywhere that says that.
TIA

Thanks, V2. I'm ordering the mounts and tackling the job as soon as the weather warms up.
Is the drill still to use only genuine Porsche parts? I read somewhere that some of the current aftermarket ones are made in Germany by the same companies as the originals, and to the same specs, and so can be used instead. True? Not true?

I replaced my mounts, both sides and also replaced several original bushings as a while you are in there operation.
I was pleased with the customer service I received from 944 online and their quick, same day get in the mail, service.

Thanks everyone. I couldn't afford this car without these forums. Audi, your experience in the earlier thread was quite helpful, and a Roll Tide shout out to NC. I'm a sucker for the "while I'm here" syndrome, and will certainly do the roll bar bushings and maybe rebuild the power steering while I'm at it, As far as PITAs are concerned, I've removed the thermostat, dropped and replaced the exhaust system and done the front wheel bearings. If I can get that accursed thermostat out I can do anything. Not sure I'd try a clutch job, though.

From a PRO 944 shop in San Diego,
Spray the top of the mount with silicone to slide in easier and avoid cutting/nicking the top of the mount...
I bought OEM and got the discount---fast ship.

Cheapest place to buy the OEM mounts is Sonnen Porsche. $190 each. Part number 951.375.042.04. Just bought a pair from them a few months ago. Ordered on a Sunday, they were delivered on Thursday.

Here is my experience...

I bought the Hamburg Techniks from Pelican. It has been 5 years and not a lot of kilometers but the mounts looked fine when I inspected them in place a couple of months ago.

If your existing mounts are original, the bolts are a pain since they're held in by a nut on the far side of the mount that's really hard to reach. Before you start, go out and buy the smallest 13mm ratcheting box wrench you can find, and use a standard open-end 13mm to hold the other side in place. Use a 5" (or so) pry bar to help jam the new mounts into the cross member, it's a pretty tight fit.
