Question Questions: lowering with eccentric?

getting ready to swap sway bars and put in new rear shocks, figure i could lower the rear while i'm there. i know it will only lower about 3/4".

so, raising the trailing blade lowers the car - which way do i have to turn the eccentric bolt?

will the bolt stop when the blade is fully raised, or do i have to stop and take measurements and "set" the height?

The procedure is quite well explained in Tom Boerger's site:

Turn it either way. It will just keep spinning. The spring plate will just go up and down as you keep turning the bolt. You will be able to tell just by looking when it is at its highest and lowest points.

It's been my experience that what will happen is that you'll loosen the adjustment bolts and the other bolts, the spring plates will powerfully snap to their lowest position due to the spring tension in the torsion bars. And you'll have to go through the tortures of the damned to set the rear suspension to anything BUT the lowest possible position.

If you don't lower the front of the car too, it will look weird - like the tail is sitting too low.

Incidentally, the car rides and handles considerably better with the rear suspension set so that the car is at least level, if not very slightly higher in the rear.

I learned about his site from years of reading the Rennlist E-Mail lists. They existed long before these forums, you know.

luis, thanks for the boerger site, it will be helpful.

when i measure the height of the car at the rear of the front wheel wells and the front of the rear wells - the rear is 2" higher.

I assume, if the car bottoms out as Bryan states, i will be o.k.

the boerger site states to just loosen the eccentric and pivot, a tiny bit, then turn the eccentric from the backside of the arm using that thin profile wrench. in this case, the car should not just snap to lowest postion. but, because of the 2" difference, dont i want the car set to the lowest position?

is it necessary to use the thin profile wrenches? is it a matter of access?

Yes, IIRC, access is an issue. I used a thin bicycle headset wrench.

I like Tom Boergers site, very informative and all that, but,,please don't emulate his jackstand setup as shown in the accompanying pictures. That's not a good idea.

Can someone post a link to the exact page on Tom's site that shows this procedure?

I don't know why, but I'm unable to locate it there. Could have something to do with all the red X's I see on the main page too.....

Thanks

What was the outcome of this FEZZ? Did you attempt it? If so, any before/after pictures?
