I pulled this from a post over on the Pelican Parts board.
"In what is a final twist of Irony, The porsche tool to measure belt tension on all of the newer cars (meaning Boxster\993\996 accessory belts, NOT 924S, 944 & 968 TIMING BELTS) is made by Kriket."

Or the Heater core on a 944 will cost you $500 as a Porsche part.
But since it already is a VW part, you can get it from them for $90

Speaking of which, does anyone have al ist, or a website that says which parts of 944's match up with which parts of VW's? it would be cool if someone had a detailed list with part numbers and such.. '

Use the part # you have. It should be a direct cross-reference. The only truly specific parts will have 944, 951 as the first three digits. (I think) I just called the local VW or Audi dealership to check.

Funny, my parts guy at Weissach in Vancouver used to work for a VW dealer. I don't remember how long, but he's been a parts guy for like 30+ years, and his experience is that when buying new parts from the dealer that are used on both VW and Porsche, the VW is always more expensive. I didn't quite believe this until I called some of the local VW dealer looking for a few parts, he was right:s. And as I recall from my mechanical engineering classes, there are some companies out there that make products and are priced that lets them break even after R&D, marketing, ect. It's the replacement parts where they make big profits.
