Default nose pieces, or "upper end plate"

i have an early 85 944 that is a little damaged on the driver's front. the nose piece under the headlight is tweeked a bit. i already bought a new one, but my question is: were these weld on in the early years and bolt on in the late years? the new one i have is from a 924 i believe. i bought it from parts heaven for $100. parts heaven had to cut it off, and doesnt seem to bolt on anywhere. i have had my bumper off and fenders off, but i really couldnt tell if mine was a bolt on. if i could bolt this on, i could do the body work myself, and have the car looking at least 17-51.98% better. anyone have any input towards this? the guy that is supposed to do the bodywork for me says that it is definitly a bolt in, but he was drunk at the time. also, in regards to the turbo badges on non turbo cars: i mentioned in a defense, the mass portrayal of carrera rs's by 911 owners. i believe this to be kinda the same. so looking for some thoughts on my idea.......i would like to kinda pay homage to the 944 gtp, but add a few other factory styling touches and porsche tuner touches. my car would kinda be rice because of the fact: the engine wouldn't be able to live up to the look........for the time being. im hoping to start the fiberglassing after i return from the army. please give me some tips, or suggestions, or comments, or blatant curse words, or encouragement, or any feedback.

Yep, Early cars had the nose welded on, later cars were bolt-ons, don't know when they switched.

Your early '85 944 should have the bolt on nose peice. Mine does. I know the '83 944 models had the welded on nose panels. I've got one of those also. (parts car). I removed it using a 5/16" spot weld cutter. Leaves some pretty good sized holes in the panel. Hole pattern surely won't line up with your bolted on panel. Porsche must have changed them over to the bolt on panels somewhere between '83 and '84. How did parts heaven cut off the panel you bought? Same as I did above? Or did they cut off the panel with the support structure still welded to it?

With a little drilling and modification. an early weld on nose panel can go on later bolt on car. Line it up and drill/grind as needed. As for Turbo badges on NA cars, don't do it, you'll always feel weird when you walk up to your car from behind, its too steep a price to pay!!

my car must've been when and where they switched because one side was welded and the other wasn't...

okay, okay, no i didnt mean i wanted to put turbo badges on, i want to make the body wider ala the 944 gtp but i hate the way the rears are just boxes. i like the way that newer porsche race cars have the front fender flares that vent the front brakes like the gt1 cars, the 944 gtp had this in the rear, but just wasnt pretty to me. i do want a big wing, that i think would match the body better, but its a design by gemballa on the gt3 evo that is tall and curves to match the rear end profile from above. i would like to switch the rear to 968 style and of course the mirrors and door handles. i WANT carrera 18" lightweights, but i havent seen that big on a 944 yet. and yes they cut the panel off with the structure intact.
