Default Escort Solo S2 Cordless

My wife is buying me a radar detector for Xmas. I think this is the one I want. I would really like the conveinence of cordless and from what I have read I dont think you lose much with this model compared to the best corded models.

Does anyone have good or bad experiences with the S2 Cordless?

get a v1, the rest is crap. you can run a concealed wire setup easily. All cordless ones lose a lot of ability from what I remember from a C&D article a few years ago. You won't regret a V1.

On the V1 argument, everyone says buy a V1, Ive even said it myself, Radartest.com doesnt seem to think the V1 is the best. Everything I have seen from 2002 says the V1 is best, but not the recent reviews I have read.

If Radartest.com is to be believed then there is not much difference in the Solo S2 and the V1. The Solo sucks like all the other $200 cordless units, but the S2 gets good reviews.

Can anyone point to any recent reviews of high end radar detectors?

Why do most sites and magazines rate the Escorts better than the V1's?
I don't have either, but just wondering why you feel so strong about the V1 vs. the others? For the price, it should be able to detect hot chicks in a one mile radius as well as the five-oh...

Well, recently (about 2 months ago) on a drive with a bunch of my BMW buddies down PCH, my friend Doug, driving his E30 M3, calls over the radio, "everyone slow down, there are cops ahead..." so, we are driving for couple of minutes and all of the sudden out of nowhere is Capt Smokey sitting on the side of the road clocking people... It must have been at least a mile before we got to him... The V1 is the best, hands down... it has saved my *** quite a few times...

I have no doubt that V1s are good. My question is what the Solo S2 is like. Im hopeful that someone here has one and can speak of thier experience with it.

Bruce,

I have a Solo S2 and I really like it. On my 928, the cig lighter does not work and I wanted something that I could use in my other car as well. The V1 does work very well and I am sure that every one that owns one can testify as how it has saved them, but my S2 has also worked very well for me.

I don't do as much very fast driving anymore (I want my insurance to stay where it is, thank you very much), so I limit my high speed cruising to spots where I can kind of foresee if there are going to be any problems or not. I drive within that limit and try not to push my luck. So far the S2 has performed flawlessly and has saved me too, from the times where I have used more gas than sense (have been known to do that on occasion... after all it is a Porsche).

Personally, I try to drive more in a stealth mode, if you know what I mean.

i have only used the v1 and I couldn't imagine having another type that doesn't LOCATE the source of the radar as in front or behind. And count the signals. That alone has saved me enough. Great feature when you get used to it. Buy them both, sell the one that sux.

While I am sure the Escorts are very good, the location and signal counters are well worth the extra cash with the V1

I did have a Solo that I used when I traveled and it was not that impressive and went through batteries really fast!

No experience with the Solo2 cordless, but I did do the "buy both, send the loser back" test with the Escort 8500 and the V1. The Escort got sent back rather quickly. I rely very heavily on my V1, and have a VERY high level of trust in it.

That doesn't help you out much tho, Bruce. If you have some way of swinging a similar comparison test, and see which one you like better. To make it a fair comparison, you need to only have one unit powered on at a time.

Regards,

Got the S2 for Christmas, it works great! Very few false signals which have all been on X band and it has warned before all four cops seen since the purchase.

I have both, and now only use the V1.

V1 is worth the price, you just cant beat it. Plus alot of the online sites are usually paided by the companies to post those reviews, so you can never really be sure if its the truth. But go with the V1.
