Default 924 hood shocks

Anyone know what the deal is with hood shocks on the 924? My car is an '82 Turbo, and it has the hood stay that clips to the hood. No shocks, but I see it has the mount points for them. Looking at engine bay pics on the internet, I see some have the shocks, some do not. Am I not supposed to have them? Aren't the shocks better than a stay? Any reason not to get some and put them on?

I've had an 81 and 82 931 and neither had hood shocks. Pretty sure it was a 944 thing. If it has the mounting points on the hood and body, don't see why you can't attach shocks to them though. In fact you could probably get a DIY on 924boarddotorg.

You might be confusing the pictures of a 924 with the 924S.

The 924S had hood struts in place of the prop rod. It's not too hard to attach the struts to the hood, but in 924S's and 944's the bottom ball bracket is welded on, although I'm sure you could adapt something to hold it.

shocks are better than a stay, until its mid winter and the aging shocks dont hold up anymore and the hood falls on your head...

I had hood shocks/bonnet struts on my '80 924 turbo with a fibreglass bonnet. Unclip the bonnet and it raised by itself. I loved it. Definitely an upgrade over the prop rod. I'm looking at adding 968 struts for my 944.

My car does have the ball bracket, as well as the clips on the hood. I may as well try it!

Its an 1981 and newer thing if I remember correctly.
My 83 only has gas shocks, no stay.
My 1980 has the stay and the mounts for the shocks on the hood..but not on the body.

Interesting...mine is an 82, has all the mounts (no shocks, at least not now) and the stay. User configurable I guess
