Intake P/N is 944.110.052.02 it is an updated (for MY1988) p/n but it appears the same according to PET it looks like it replaced 944.110.051.09 (PET refers to that number as the dropped p/n #, use the one I gave first as replacement).

I don't think there is a difference in the manifolds. I'd check PET but I'm at work now.

Matt... Now that I think about it you are correct. For some reason I was thinking the intake and/or exhaust was changed. So to get the same HP in an 87 you need to swap head for an 88? D

Again, just conjecture but I thought the difference is in the pistons not the head. The head has the same note about the p/n update. It has been a while since I had an NA though.

Ok...Then the piston head must differ because both are 2.5L. Engine internals are not my forte! Forgive me guys just trying to learn! Thanks D

That must be the case here are the numbers from the manual

to 87 - Bore 3.94; stroke 3.11; CR 9.5:1; HP 150
88 (8 valve) - Bore 3.94; Stroke 3.11; CR 10.2:1; HP 160 (158 SAE corrected)

It appears the the "dish" of the piston was reduce in MY1988 in order to raise the CR. The ROW piston is a flat top piston (acording to the pictures in manuals) so that is where I make the assumption of difference. For the 2.7L it was reduced to about a dime from say a 1" diameter depression.

Matt is right. The 88 pistons are different and higher compression. I had an 88 motor taken apart and the pistons has a smaller indentation than the earlier years.
