Unhappy Help Please

OK Guys, here's the set-up. Coasting into a parking lot, suddenly oil light comes on, oil pressure drops to zero, and power steering quits (engine still running at idle). Park and stop the car, check the power steering belt and note the pulley on the front of the crank is loose. Seems to be held on with one end bolt. Can I just loosen up the belt adjustment bar, tighten down the pulley bolt, and readjust the belt tension? Thanks

I would think the two are unrelated. (BUT) If the power steering and alternator are run by the same belt; you may cure both with one belt. (I have heard of many strange things happening when the system voltage falls.) They may be different than mine.

No altenator runs off the grooved belt on the driver side, power steering is off the v-belt on the pass side, both are turned from pullies at the end of the crank with the smaller v-belt pulley bolted through the larger grooved belt pulley. I'm just trying to figure out why suddenly that pulley is flopping around loose and how to fix it.

Jim is that the only bolt that holds that pulley in place? I've noticed in drawings there's a spacer/washer behind it, but what keeps it from spinning?

The pulley that's loose is item 24, so I believe all I need to do is tighten bolt 16. Anyone know for sure?

13 is your oil pump gear, better make sure all the teeth are present and accounted for. That's probably why you lost oil pressure. There may be a key there also, I just can't remember, but if it was me I would go ahead and replace the oil pump gear, the seal, and make sure the timing belt is still in correct timing. The timing gear may have slipped too. In any case I wouldn't just retighten the bolt, not without a complete check.

Doesn't he have to put in a flywheel lock to hold the engine in place while he's tightening to 151ft-lb?

The only safe way to torque that bolt is with the flywheel lock. If you had no oil pressure with the engine running be careful torqueing that bolt, the oil pump gears might not be meshed right and could be crushed. Be careful!

14 is balance shaft pulley, 13 is the timing belt pulley, 21 is seal infront of the pump gear. 17 is the alternator aircond pulley. 24 is the ps pulley. Pull out the main bolt 16 and washer 15 pull off pulley24 and make sure that the key way is still square and is still there. If it is the rest is mostlikley all right. The key rides the entire length through all the pulleys. washer 15 has a hollow side that allows pully 24 to key in and still apply all the ft pounds to be directed to the center of the stack. 14 and 13 are actually behind the cover. and are holding belts. You will have to put a flywheel lock on to check all this.. Me personally if the key way was still intack and the fact that you did not crash the valves.. I would just assemble the front pulley back on if it is ok. and torque to spec... That is me.. if your not sure. Do the procedure for belt replacement to be sure.. question is why did your crank bolt loosen up?? ANd if your going to check the belts.. might as well replace them.. There is a lot missing on your pic. but it does stop short of the pump.
