Default Source for New Windshield

Folks,

Any good sources for a new windshield - as I hear used ones are not really an option.

Tweeks wants $500 ish for one.

Any ideas where else to try.

Thanks David,

Not yet...i only noticed the crack this morning, under all the ice and snow. Yeah ...no garage at the moment. Wasn't sure how hard these were to get hold of.

The best local price I got was around $500 installed. Yours will probably be less since you have an early car. The later ones have the antenna and if you have airbags (like me) it's also a little thicker.

EDIT-Oops, I just saw that you have an 87. If you don't have airbags it still may be a little less. The shops I talked to said the non airbag glass was less but I had to have the airbag glass since the car has them even if the bags are disabled. Legal mumbo jumbo.

Thanks Pete, I will look locally, but think I can live with the glass until the spring, when there's less junk on the road.

No airbags, so that helps, and good to know it keeps the antenna.

Thanks guys.

The best price I found around here was at Safelite. $285 installed. That was an OEM Sekurit windshield w/antenna, too.

I had a Pilkington replacement from Binswanger installed previously. It cracked in three days. POS

Red1, was that for an airbag car? That's a great price. I wish it wasn't such a long drive to Houston or I'd do a road trip. I couldn't find anything close to that here.

You're welcome. Glad I could be of help.

FWIW, I've been much happier with the install job Safelite did vs Binswanger, too.

I just called them and set up an installation for next month. The price was a little higher ($382) but that still beats $500. This is not an insurance claim (no deductible) so I think that's why it's higher.

Thanks guys!

Spoke to my mechanic this a.m. and he is under the impression that safelite make their own glass or use glass that has imperfections in it.

Red1, whats the impression of the quality of the glass from Safelite

Thanks guys!
