Back when I had my 924S I was very tempted to do exactly this. What stopped me in my tracks were the North American spec round side lights installed in the rear quarter panels. They seem to be placed exactly where the rear wheel flare should go and would interfere with the installation.
They could be welded over or filled, I suppose, but I didn't want to get into that sort of depth (read: expense) with my '87.

What's your plan?
The long term plan is to weld up the holes from the side lights (single worst feature on any modern Porsche IMHO). But for this round I am going to mount the flares and leave the lights, and take care of the welding when the sun roof delete panel is welded in place. Seen below the flares can be added with the lights still in place.
Came here for the pics, was not disappointed. Getting all the parts together seems like a lot of trouble. Nice work!
I wish I could say I had all the parts, but I seem to make a little progress every month. This is going to take a long time to get to an end state, but thankfully I have the 951 to tide me over during the build.

Couldn't agree more. The good news is that it appears that the front fender is already wired for the European side marker light. This appears to be the case for my 924s. As for the rear, haven't a number of owners switched to the vacant (most lateral) receptacle on the rear light assembly? You might say that they, too, 'have seen the light'!

So had a nice pre thanksgiving package arrive yesterday. 15x7 and 15x8 Fuchs from Josh B.
They showed up with some faded caps:
But I had some spares painted gloss black on the shelf.
The 8s look meaty up front (7s are out getting tires swapped over).
Edit, one more picture with the 7s back on with tires. Long way from the end of this project, but the little milestones really help move the ball forward.
Other than the headlights, the bodywork has arrived (924 turbo header panel not pictured). Project will continue to move forward at a snails pace, I hope to have the body roughed in by February.

That's cool to see that the flares miss the lights... wish I'd known that when I had my 924S! I might have to buy another now, thanks to you.
Did you get a good price on swapping the tires over? I am still thinking about swapping the tires between the fuchs and phones.
I was actually annoyed at the cost to swap them over, well the charge for the swapping was fine, but there was a $10 extra per wheel for "shop materials" that didn't seem quite right.
