Does the early dash and console work in the later cars? I like the idea! What happened to the original 924s?

that is exactly what I almost did. makes sense if you want more power than the standard 924 powerplant. anxious to see how yours turns out

in the end I got a 924S after all. will start my own thread.

Unfortunately no, I am sure with an immense amount of fabrication it could be done, but I don't think it would be worth it.

The original car is going to donate it's rear 1/4s to the S2, and then after that it is likely to get parted, unless someone wants to use it as a Chump / Lemons car.

924S is the logical starting point, and if mine had been a little nicer I would have probably kept going with it. But this S2 popped up for sale and the wheels started turning in my head.

I like both ideas, Ian's original idea and the 3.0 revised version.

Personally, I'd lose as much weight as possible and just do a hot rod 2.5 8V.

And I just might....

As I understand it (be aware I've never done this personally) you can wrap yourself in cellophane for a few days and drop weight like a big dog?

Hot rod the engine? I don’t think there is much to gain but I’m open to ideas 😁

Ian, in regards to you maybe parting out your 924S; I would be interested in the door, moonroof, and hatch weatherstripping if they are in good shape. If you like, we can discuss this through PM.

Yup, occlusion is the medical term I think.

I use a topical steroid on a few areas of skin and if you wrap area with cellophane, it multiplies the medication effect but makes sweat like a big dog....

Michael Mount did a 200 hp 2.5 with nothing much more than a 3.0L crank, stock intake, exhaust, stock cam.
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-and-...-2v-power.html

+2mm intake valves (from the '89 2.7 aftermarket) and a much better cam, the high compression Wossner pistons + headers should get you to 200.

You're in 12 lbs/hp territory, at 2400lbs.

By comparison, a 944T, 944S2 and 968 at stock weights are 13.82lbs:1, 14.42lbs:1 and 13.18:1 respectively.
That's just acceleration factor, stopping and turning 600 lbs less for a street car is massive.

It has been slow going for the 924 GTS project, but bodywork should be starting soon (I think I have said that before).

A small update, when I was fitting the 931 nose panel to the S2 I encountered a small problem, the vents were hitting the stock S2 airbox. I had wanted to retain the factory airbox, but the 931 nose panel is more important to the overall look so the OEM part had to go. Searching the internet for an intake kit for the S2 I found one where the guy charges $200 for a 45 degree bend, a 2.75 to 3 inch coupler, and then a 3 inch cone filter. That seemed absurd to me so I wanted to find another solution. In the end I figured out that I could order a kit for a mazdaspeed6 and make it work. I still need to build a splash guard, and then will paint everything black so it is hidden. I will also be switching to a longer higher quality air filter, but was really just looking for a proof of concept so this works for now. $40 seems a lot better than $200 and there are less connections because the pipe and filter are all 2.75.

Anyway these are the results:

I did a double take on this, was sure you'd started with a 924? How did the S2 come into the picture? I can see from the pictures you're not using an S2 motor, why an S2 airbox? I did a thread search on S2 and didn't find anything about it but have to admit I haven't read the complete thread start to finish, I just stumbled on it a few months back and started following along. I've always wanted to build a 924 GTR, in fact I started a project based on a 1981 931 but wrecked it before I could finish. Best of luck with yours,

When following my projects it is easy to get confused, as half the time I'm not exactly sure where I am going with things. But I did start with a rough 924S as the original basis for this project. But when cosmetically challenged S2 popped up near by I scooped it up and changed directions. Now the 1989 S2 is the chassis that will become 924 GTS(ish) tribute. I know the interior will not be period correct, but I am thinking of it as a backdated 944, similar to what they do in the 911 world.

I see it now, on page 8. The low angle on the engine bay photo you just posted made me think I was looking at a 2.5L, but the earlier shot makes the 3.0L pretty obvious. I shouldn't have missed that.
