Default Exhaust Crush Ring (pic)

Anybody have a good technique for removing the exhaust crush rings on the cross over pipe? I have new rings but the old ones are impossible to pry out?

Appreciate the help

Heat them with a blowtorch to red hot, they'll pop out. Keep flammables and body parts out of the way. Thanks to whoever posted this originally.

Good idea. I didn't even think about that. Just be sure not to use an Oxy-acyeteline torch that will get it too hot. You don't want to melt to cut it!

I would use an oxy-acyteline torch, make it cherry red and bang it out.

Use something similar to a dentist's pick.

No need to heat them, a small pick does fine. When at room temp, they shouldn't be stuck in there. Tap it with a hammer a few times if you like, then just pull it out w/a pick.

I agree with Ahmet. Never under estimate the power of a hammer. It worked for me.

Hammer and a nail set (or screw driver, ice pick, etc). Dont use a torch unless they are really fused in there.

on my ex girlfriends prelude, i used an awl to make a holein one of them as a bit of a pry area, and after i did that i got some leverage in there with a screwdriver, and after a bit of knocking, they starting turning in the hole, and eventually just worked themselves out. its not fun and takes a bit of effort, but who cares about ruining the old ones, you're gonna put new ones in anyhow.

Buy a mechanic's pick. You'll wonder how you ever did without one.
