Wayne's 914-6 Conversion -> STOLEN!!!
Hi Rennlisters,
Wayne's 914 was stolen this morning and I wanted to put the word out:
Happened this morning (4/25), 12AM or so - Harbor City (Los Angeles). Last seen traveling north on Vermont after passing Lomita at about 95 mph according to the Police. At least the car got some exercise. Hopefully they just took it for a joyride and dropped it in a parking lot somewhere. I've been driving around all night looking for it. I've got the team assembling a search party of about 10 people with cars and maps and we will go hunting for it.
More details and pics to come when I wake up (been up all night).
-Wayne
It's a great car and I hope we can recover it! If you hear or see anything, please call us, thank you! 310.626.8765

This sucks. Just got a text about it.
Well, if it's gone, I've got a great set of front hubs, drilled Zimmerman rotors and Carrera calipers, backers, and almost new B-HD shocks I'd donate to the cause.
Let's just find it though.

More info from Wayne:
Appreciate the comments. Some additional input:
- Not a targeted theft. This was in a temporary storage garage down the street from Pelican. My assistant put it in there - I think the keys were left in the ignition. They look like they tried to get the BMW 700 started too, but that is a nearly impossible car to start if you don't have instructions. They stole some other small stuff from the storage garage (chargers, etc.)
- The truck is indeed an former / stolen GWFG truck. We have a call into them.
- The 914 was stolen in broad daylight at about 11:30AM. They backed that truck up to the gate of the building (one of the ones down the street from Pelican HQ), and then proceeded to break into the facility. The car was seen by the police traveling 95+ mph north on Vermont about 12:30AM Sunday night. This is very odd, as this is technically heading back in the direction of Pelican, and it's about 12 hours after it was stolen. The Historical Vehicle plates were still on the car. LAPD did not give chase / pursuit.
- We had nine teams out today searching for the car in the surrounding areas. Nothing was found. I originally thought it might have been high school kids who took it for a joy ride and were going to dump it somewhere. Obviously, it's more complicated than that.
- I suspect it will be parted out, or it will show up for sale somewhere. It doesn't make any sense as to why someone would drive a stolen car down a very popular street in the middle of the night at 95 mph with the stolen plate on it. The police came to my house and woke me up at 2AM.
I seriously doubt it's on it's way to China now - it sounds like these guys have no idea what to do with it (if they are still driving it around). Please let me know if you see it or if anyone hears about it.
thx

I am still pissed at myself for not stopping and talking to a guy that was taking very close up pictures of licence plates at the Luft event. This makes three cars stolen since then. Unreal I didn't tacle the guy.

Sorry to hear of this, Wayne. Your car is so well known because of the video you did with Adam Carolla that I doubt there's any place on earth that car could end up where it wouldn't be recognized. I sincerely hope you get it back and that it's unscathed.

Bingo. Baby is back home again! The full story is coming soon, but the moral of the story is "don't mess with Wayne". The fellow who stole it went back to jail (he was out on parole). The car has relatively minimal damage that I can see, although I have not been able to get it started (the ignition switch is all "screwdrivered up").
Full story coming soon...

Glad it's back (hopefully not damaged) and that the thief is back where he belongs playing drop the soap.
