Try "the Samba" and also "Pelican Parts".

^^^^ Good suggestions.

Yep, I've been checking those sites too, on a regular basis.

That blue one does look good. The ad is pretty minimal, doesn't even say if it is a 2.0. It's 10 days old, but maybe I should look into it.

(Update: I just sent the seller an email.. let's see if I get a reply)
Gotta be the same white car. Too bad you didn't get there in time.

Just got a response from the seller of the blue 914 in OC. It's a 1.8. Foo.

Just talked to a local race shop that has a 914/3,0 out front. Was not for sale.

Any of you guys know this car?

http://classiccars.com/listings/view...lifornia-92270

What do you guys think? I believe it may have a salvage title, I'm checking with the seller.

I asked the owner about why it has a rear bumper in some pix and not in others.

Here's the response:

"Yes you are correct, some photos show the original bumper, that is an old photo. She was rear ended, so I replaced the rear, below the rear trunk lid with a 916 rear end. They have no rear bumper, the 916 is a fiber glass piece with a molded bumper built in. It save about 100 - 150 pounds on the tail of the car. When I repainted her, I put in all new window seals except for the rear window. The car has been garaged here in Rancho Mirage for 10 years, and prior to that was garaged in my old home for 5 - 6 years, she is rust free."

If it is a salvage title, I would pass. Seems like a whole lot of money if it is a salvage and that will always be a big negative going forward.

^^^ I probably should have bought it... I hadn't caught the 914 bug yet.

Hal, I agree about the salvage title issue. If he will come down significantly in price, I might still be interested. But, the way 914 prices seems to be going (up), I would greatly prefer a clear title. I'm trying to find out from the seller whether he has any photographs of the prior damage.

Definitely would be better to hold out for a clean title example. I know it is hard to be patient in a search for a new car, but you will be MUCH happier in the end if you can wait for the right car!

Yes, you are right. Patience is a virtue and all that rot.

Weird how the rear bumper is mounted- can't see a gap between bumper and body. If they filled in gap and painted, I would pass because that wouldn't hold up, and looks funny anyway, especially with the BIG bumper in front.

Mike, remember that part of the fun is the hunt. I, for one, am looking forward to spending your money.

You sound just like my ex.

Thanks for the input, guys. The rear bumper thing struck me as sort of odd and misplaced right away, which is why I emailed the seller about it. Since it hit the same chord with some of you, I guess my feeling about it seem correct.

The hunt is only "sort of" fun for me. I'd be happier to just find a great car, buy it, and be done.
