^^^lol. i can relate to that as well. i will say though that my 85 944 has been extremely reliable and does drive very well, especially given the abuse and neglect by the previous owner. i am working on the car a lot and replacing parts to make the car even better and hopefully one day make it as it was the day it rolled out of the factory.

I agree with Brad about the beautiful thing.

When i was young, my uncle and aunt had 2 Porsches - 1970 911 Targa and 1976 914. Even then, I absolutely hated the 914.
When my wife's father said he was selling his Olympic Blue 914, my wife said "no you're not, we're buying it" and I immediately thought "oh sh&t..I do not want that car. It's Ugly...I want a real Porsche (at the time, I was interested in a 944).

This is the car that became Papa Smurf...

to this day, I am still not a fan of stock 914's. I appreciate them, just like I appreciate a 356. But I have no desire to own a 356 and no desire to own just a stock 914 - as can be seen from the two 914's we now have.

RE: Daily Driver status...we drive our GT3 every day. Have put almost 40k miles on it in about 2 years... and put 6k miles on Huey each of the past 3 years!

I'm like Bob, I had to talked into dragging my then really ugly 914 home from out of the weeds and fell in love with it. That was 18 years ago. Family nicknamed it "Little Ugly" don't pass out Bob because I actually posted something.

OMG...Bill Dunster posting on Rennlist?? If I hadn't seen your avatar, I would have thought it was an imposter...

"Ugly" is a sweet little 'sleeper' that just needs a little engine tlc right now...

My dog seeks out wet mud in the summer to cool off. That's what dogs do. 914s tend to rot away with little outside influence. That's what 914s do. It's just natural.
