LOL! Back when the engine problem occurred I gave serious consideration to going with a 6-cylinder. But when I totaled the dollar numbers for 914/6 heat exchangers, muffler, front engine mount, oil reservoir and lines, front oil cooler and plumbing (necessary for anything bigger than a 2.2 liter), fuel pump, CD unit, wiring, etc., etc., I decided the car wasn't nice enough to convert. If it had perfect paint and floor sections, I might have done it, but my car is not a virgin.

That said, I put the finishing touches on the engine this morning:

I have no idea on the runners, they were done a long time ago. Wish I had a pair of nice ones that I could powder coat light gray!

Next task; off the stand, replace the flywheel seal, replace the M/S seal in the bell housing, and assemble. All that I need is time; a precious commodity these days!

Another new seal...the M/S seal was leaking, and the pivot ball was loose, and the TOB guide blocks were missing, and the parts were really grungy... Also shown, my old M/S seal extraction tool.

About an hour (not including cleaning the bell housing) to do this little repair. At a typical shop rate of $125/hr, that's expensive!

Interesting thought! The new Excellence editor has some of my work on his desk; work that Stout seemed interested with. I have not been contacted by anyone from the mag since Pete stepped aside.

Pano definitely needs new blood, but is their system so deeply rooted that little change is possible? I have caught glitches made in their tech section, but my comments, made to inform Pano's readers regarding those glitches, have been ignored. In my view that is not a healthy attitude to have while putting out sometimes incorrect/incomplete info.

It seems that Stout has definitely got the skills Pano desperately needs, but will they let him use those skills?

I'm afraid that the jury on this one will be out for awhile!

Yep, another leaking oil seal! Picture below is after cleaning, but before seal replacement. I'm also going to replace the clutch disc, the other parts look OK.
Parts have been ordered...

Damn, I was a young man last time I did one of these; and I hurt then. Can't wait for tomorrow!

Anyway, it finally came time to install new engine bay seals...on a low-rise lift...while dealing with vertigo. Fun fun, fun! Then, mate the engine and trans, and stuff it into the car.

I had to do my seals, my old ones had big chunks missing and they were hard as rocks!
