So wanna hear my July 4 weekend project?
We're taking Huey to Parade in Savannah...its going to be HOT, HOT and really HOT. and since I just can't get the manual A/C to be cold enough, I decided to install the Cool Shirt system from Papa Smurf into Huey. We'll be doing tours, and using him to drive everywhere, including the Autocross, so we needs some way to get relief.
"Not fair" you may say, "the driver gets to stay cool while the passenger has to sweat?". No, no...Cool Shirt makes a 'Y' hose that can split the cold water to TWO shirts!! That's what I installed, and used the rear defroster switch (Huey has no rear defroster) in the dash for on/off of the pump. This was the switch we used for running the rally computer at Targa Newfoundland, so it was all set and ready to be wired.
So you see Thad...it really does never end....

I hate to do this, but I just don't have the time or space to keep it right now. Its pretty much rust free, has a few small areas with some light surface rust. It seems to have been a Colorado car all its life. Was originally Delphi Green Metallic, but was repainted yellow at some point. Starts every time and pulls very well for a 1.8. Currently has studded snow tires on it and it needs shocks.
1974 Porsche 914
1.8 liter w/ carbs
5 speed manual
$2800
extra parts not installed:
Dealer installed A/C (914's didn't come from factory with A/C)

914 rear emblem
various gaskets for engine

Well I got Second Place Other Euro at a VW Audi show today. Does that mean I can raise the price? There were some GT3's there, they must not have entered because my car is no show car. The voting was done by the show goers. I'm thinking mine was just unique enough to get their attention.

I don't want to but it is what I need to do. I will get another someday, I'm already hooked. I don't regret buying this car at all. I've enjoyed it very much. I'm only working part time right now. I expected to be working full time by now, but I'm not and it's more important for me to put my time, effort and money toward my family and job.

Well, got a low offer yesterday, but I didn't take it. I have a price in my head that I won't go below. It's just not worth it to me to sell it for less than what I want. It only costs me $150 to register it for 5 years and I don't have to do emissions tests. I may have to keep it.

Are you still interested in selling your Porsche 914? If so I am interested in buying it. It looks like its in great condition. I have had trouble tracking down such a well cared for example. Would your asking price still be $2800?

I'm sorry, but I just sold it pending payment/pickup tomorrow.

Wow, Thad! I don't think you asked enough for the car, unless Jay bought it for his ever-growing collection.
Good luck to you and I sincerely hope that you'll be back to full-time work soon!

Thanks, I didn't want to sell it but I needed to. I will get another one as soon as I can. I really enjoyed having it. I may need to put up with a 924/944 until the kids are older, but another 914 will be in my future. Almost every time I drove it someone would come up to me and talk about it. It was a lot of fun talking to strangers about it and mostly letting them know what it was! Very cool experience.
