In search for a nice 2.0, 914
I have almost sold my 911, and i am now in search for a nice 914 2.0.
My budget is below 8500, but depends on location of car. I live in Fishers Indiana, but would drive a few hundred miles to catch a good 914.
Color, i am not a fan of any red, except for phoenix red. Again, i realize i won't get the best car in the world, but i should not get a rust bucket either. I have lost out on 4 nice example 914's on both 914world and 914club website.
Anyways, any leads would be appreciated.
thanks jpc

I know of a '73 in Sacramento. a 2.0 daily driver that would clean up to a much higher level. I think he is in the $6500 -$7000K range... I can hook you up with him if you like? Silver in color... Short of a factory 6 the '73 2.0 is the car to have...

Yeah, i would have some interest. Please have him either post a few photos here or @ Porsch964@sbcglobal.net (my email account)
My only concern would be the distance of the purchase.
thanks jpc

in hindsight, had I had any clue that a 2.0 would ever be worth anything, i would have bought a donor car to build Papa Smurf. He started out as a 74 2.0 and there is NO rust ANYWHERE on the car (ok, a little surface rust inside the doors, but I only found that after gutting the doors of the crash bars). When we put all the new 935 suspension on it, our mechanic said he is still shocked at how straight and true this car is. Heck, we even have the full battery tray (coming out soon) with no rust anywhere there either...
Should have kept it as a perfect 2.0, and built the race car out of something else (like an early - lighter one).
oh well....live an learn...

A friend of mine in my NCR built a 914 racecar out of a 914. He orginally bought a PERFECT 914 to build it out of and then he decided it was to nice to cut up thankfully. So he went out and bought a car that he thought wasn't to bad, but it ended up being not so good. He said he almost doubled the cost of the build getting the body to where it needed to be. So even though it stinks to cut up a good car, you will be spending a lot less. Of course this is coming from the guy who won't sell his rust free 914 to anyone who is planning on cutting it up, so what do I know.

well, it started out, it was "just a 914" and we didn't know anything about them, like that many have rust issues, good straight clean ones were rare, etc. We knew absolutly nothing about owning an older car (ok, I owned a 74 chevelle at one point, but that doesn't count).
it was my wifes father's daily driver in Pueblo, CO. We got it, drove it around, cleaned it up (entered a few concours and did pretty well), autocrossed it, etc. Then our mechanic introduced us to Drivers Ed. Wow...that changed everything. When we needed engine work, we upped it to a 2.4 engine and loved it for years and years. Then, with the more power, we needed better brakes and suspension. Then, if we were going to track it a lot, we needed a roll cage, harnesses, seats, etc.
So, then we have a nice, stiff, solid 2.4 engined stock bodied car that we still used all the time everywhere....until I rolled it at Limerock in 2000. That's when we decided to replace all the body parts with glass or carbon fiber. In 2004, it went to a 6 cylinder and I started the process of lightening it. But...in the end, for some reason I will not cut up stuff that will completely bastardize it, like the rear trunk, chopped windshield, etc. Just can't bring myself to cut into the chassis itself.... not sure why

I love my 73 914 2.0 Loads of fun to autocross and drive on nice sunny days. Gets many more looks and thumbs up than my 964. It's a great car if you're single (I'm not) because I've had so many women come up to me at gas stations and wherever I park to tell me how 'cute' the car is. Even my 9 year old daughter tells me it going to be 'her' car when she gets her license....
