My favorite ... ELECTRICAL...

Got the headlights operating properly finally (it's not 2:30AM). Let me just say you all the way need the diodes with the cathode pointing the right way and a good wiring diagram...
Tailights aren't plugged in right so it lights up like a christmas tree. Then onward to the bulkhead area .. wipers, blower motor and other nonsense.

It's been really hot the last couple of days, with beautiful warm nights so I'm highly motived to get this car back together. Of course that might be summer 09

I'm still building an engine...

Tracking the other cars has slowed me down.

Just about everything. You name it, it's being done.....Huey is being put back together from our Targa wreck. Installed the wiring harness this weekend, getting the cage re-welded in, and wired the lights and some guages last night.

Update: Sway bar droplink bushings installed. A bit of a PITA Beig weltmeister bushings, they didn't just "drop in". So, once I got the new bushings in I was met with the unrealized issue of

New metal "barrel" that allows the mounting bolt to fit thru is not the same size as the old one. Well. The O.D was the same. The I.D was smaller on the new one. So, I got to take apart (ruin) my new bushing as I had to re-do with the original barrels.

Luckily, my nearly 90 minutes of work to get one in was compensated by about needing only 15min to get the other side removed, replaced and installed.

Good times!

So.. Next project???

1) win my AX class this week
2) Maybe even get into the Top 10
3) Wash and shine for the holiday weekend.

At least you have swaybars. For whatever reason I have these cheap imitation sway bars that look like they came off a chevy truck. They have the "four bushing-one long bolt" end links. The rears like to rest on the coil spring when they are unloaded, and when you load them they ratched past the coil. I'm assuming my car didn't originally come with any and this hack job was the answer. I haven't decided how I'm going to approach this problem yet.

The new bushings were a noticable improvement. Plus, won my class but placed 11th overall.. just out of my top 10 goal.

This week's project?

Well after only 5 DE days and 1 AX its time to have the RA-1s "flipped" on their rims. Nice "full tread" on the inside and worn shoulders on the outsides. See if we can't get another 3-5 DE days and 5-8 more AX out of them.

OK, got gauges in, lights, roll cage, front sway bars, full front suspension. Still need engine, transmission installed, oil cooling system installed, rear suspension fixed/replaced (I think the trailing arms are bent), seats, windshield, .....lots more stuff....

Just finished (Monday) "re-engineering" the shift rod coupler. The existing tapered bolt had stripped out the threads in the coupler body, allowing rotation between the front and rear shift rods, which in turn lead to a non-existent 4th and 5th gear (and a difficult to find 1st). Drilled and tapped the hole a little bit larger, tapered the end of a slightly longer bolt and added a jam nut. Installed the "re-engineered" bolt and enjoyed a trouble free drive in the late afternoon/early evening along the coast.
