Default Help with value on 914-6

Hey guys...
Think of getting a 914 and saw this yesterday. Very clean but have not driven it or PPI. Price seems $10,000 too high. What do you think?..Thanks GR

That does seem high to me, maybe not a full 10K. Looks like a very nice car.

Some minor issues to me:

1) Cardex says "cinnemon" interior yet pics show black.
2) Interior window cranks and door panels are not correct. Yes, the panels are the smooth vinyl, vs a basketweave, but there should be a small "puff" shape along the top 1-1/2" of the door panel where it meets the window opening
3) Euro lenses (front and rear) - Original rear lenses are hard to find.. NOS ones, I imagine are nearly impossible. Not sure about front lense availability. I know the "euro" repros sell for about $200/ea.
4) Odd radio compartment box. I believe in cars not optioned with a radio, a traditional blank panel would have been installed.
5) Not sure why the rear trunk carpet is cut up
6) no pics of front trunk interior (where spare sits)
7) No sign of passenger foot rest
8) in some pics, carpet looks "plush" compared to the thin stuff the car should have come with
9) Can't tell if its overspray or bag lighting in some pics.

$35 would be high to me, given the items listed above. Then again, it makes my dads look like a $40K example

Seems 15K to high to me actually. For 20K I am buying a 911 and I am a huge 914 fan.

Boy it ought to be PERFECT for anywhere near that price! Still a tailshifter- expensive to upgrade. No reason the rear carpet should have that piece cut out. As noted above, the door panels are not OEM- kind of weird looking without the proper top piece. I agree it seems 15K too high...

skl,
Glad to hear you agree with me, I was worried that I would get laughed at for saying 15K to high. I jst can't believe the prices I am seeing on these cars now. I like 914's but I just think their value is crazy right now. Today an $8K car goes for $4K a few years ago.

Heck, if the Europeans are willing to come to america and buy up our 90-110hp 914s, then let them pay ridiculous prices for them

"Europeancollectibles" isn't exactly known for their pricing either They do seem to get a lot of nice eye candy, and I couldn't tell if this was "their" car of a consignment car.

.
Hi guys,

Sorry to rain on the parade but they know their market.

At that price with $1000 for shipping it works out as a competitive price for a good (not concours) original 914/6 here in Germany. In fact a dealer here could probably make a profit on that price....

I will probably sell one of my 914/6's this year and it's a good unrestored car. In the current market here I'd expect to get more than the advertised car.

I agree. The car has all the original hard-to-get parts. The points that "racer" made are rather trivial and can easily be swapped back to original style.

It would be nice to have the original tool kit though, they are rather expensive and hard to find.

All in all looks like a pretty clean original car.

Actually the original US ones are in most of our parts collections here and we can't sell them as no body is interested. Same goes for the front lenses, and the euro repros for the front cost only about $20 here.

While my points are "trivial" for a driver example, for $35K USD, I would expect a truly accurate example. That's all. Sure the items can be "changed back", but why were they changed in the first place. I guess the "6" just holds a special place in my 914 heart and I prefer orignal, accurate examples when the price is that high.

Irishdriver - maybe you need to start selling the US stuff back to US folks.. Then again, 914 owners are a cheap crowd.. we'd rather just use our old, broken stuff than get it right

Here is an idea of the sort of offer available in Europe...

a reputable dealer with a good car...and US rear lights !!
http://www.elevenparts.com/index2.php?f=cars

and yes that price translates as about 55,ooo dollars.

Nobody mentioned the hood badge. I HATE that. Original cars had no badge. I cringe when I see one on a nice example like this one. All the other points have been mentioned, including the interior of the front trunk compartment. The door panels are irritating also, but the radio alteration can be fixed easily.

I'm with Jay. $15k high. Also, no one asked where the rust is...You know it's there, you just have to find it. Plus, where the rear carpet is cut, there looks to be some sort of bolt down. Possibly a battery relocation at one point?

It's probaby a nice car, but not completely original. Only worth around $20k in my book. For $35k we are getting near 993 territory!
