Rennshift- any experience?
Anyone have or driven a 914 with the rennshift gated shift mechanism by jwest? I have a '71 converted to a side shifter but would like something even better. How much is hype or is it worth the $$??

I have a first generation rennshift with 33%(i think) throw reduction.
I switch out my shifter that had the weltmeister spring kit which I installed. (that helped a lot btw)
I now have a sweet shifting set up that is awesome to behold. Nice tight shifts no vagueness. Just really nice.
My car is running a sideshift too.

I have both the shifter and the linkage kit that goes to the transaxle. 914's should not shift this well. Of course, this is $1000 + and then you have to install it. So you have to decide if you want to shift well (bushing changes) or great (rennshift).

Well I've had the car for 36+ years and had it apart so much over the years installing it would be fun- and I don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon, or ever for that matter, so maybe it would be a good deal... hope a couple more who have done it will chime in.
If I can remember my sign in name and password over at 914club (haven't been there for so long) I may ask over there too...
BTW, what is the welding required to the shift rod if you add the linkage kit?

I own a '70 914-6; and had installed the JWest shifter as well as their linkage. The car shifts flawlessly and pricisely and with minimal effort -- if memory is correct, these parts cost approximately $900.00. In my opinion this is the only way to go....

I have it on both my Club Racer and our Targa Newfoundland/street car and would never go back to anything else. Smooth and precise shifts. I couldn't be happier. Definitely a huge benefit for the race car, I have total confidence I will be in the right gear all the time.
Highly recommended.

I'd love to order one but left a message on their answering machine and never heard back... maybe it didn't work so I'll try again... sounds like it is worth it as I plan on keeping the car another 35 years...

Just ordered a Rennshift- will post my impressions after I install it. Sure hope it works even half as well as some have posted elsewhere. I'm just putting the front shift assembly on first and if it works well I may skip the linkage part...

LOL, I think I would have better luck gathering Porsches if my wife liked driving them a little more. She loves the 914 because the top comes off, but she doesn't like shifting it.
