What's the difference between the GT style engine lid and the standard one. Also, what does it take to turbocharge the thing? I really want to

How does one turbo charge a CIS car? I also have a 78 928 in addition to my carbed 914. Ed where would the pressurized air enter the intake? I would think after the plenum air flow sensor. but then how does the motor correct fuel mixture. must be some special plumbing like 911 turbo?

The grille on a GT style engine lid goes almost to the rear window, it's supposed to promote better cooling. You loose the water tray so parking in the rain may be a problem. And you get a bit more engine noise in the cockpit.

You can't buy a turbo kit for your 914. There are several turbo'd teeners out there and each one is different, designed and built by their owners. What does it take to build one? A good understanding of fuel systems, turbocharging theory and the ability to fabricate all sorts of parts would be at the top of the list. My set-up pictured below has the turbo pulling through the airflow meter, enrichment is supplied by an additional injector. It is one of two cars using CIS injection. Other successful turbo installs have been carbureted or used the original D-jet injection.

You're not totally confused. Email is the most popular way the "main" 914 list is accessed. But, you can also read/post from a newsreader (NNTP) or using the Web interface at http://www.rennlist.org/lists.htm

Keerist, Ed.

I must have stared at that photo of that engine compartment of yours for 5 minutes, trying to figure out what did what to who.

Think I'd better stick with NA Porsches.

Since Pete, Ed, and John chimed in:

Mine is a 72 2 liter (started life as a 1.7, left a rod bearing at the bust stop). Engine has 40 Weber's, Webcam, euro pistons, and the compression is up a point. Koni's all around, 21mm t-bars, 19mm front swaybar, 180 coilovers in rear, Yoko A038Rs. Getting completely stripped in a few weeks and getting a nice paint job to finish the restoration. Will run with Pete and John's cars (when I'm dreaming).

If I knew how to do the picture thing, I would.

Hello

I have a simple 914/4, 72, saturnyellow/black

Nothing special and just happy with 80 HP and skinny tires.

When I was younger I had a 914/4 with a 2,7 RS and some slight modifications in a normal looking body. Scaring most 911 and some other sportcar drivers in the Stuttgart and Heilbronn suburbs.

Some day I was grown out from that ?

Hi ALL !!
My ´71 914 started life with 1.7L four. Now I have 3.0L SC engine with Webers, home made headers and motor mount and pressure-fed chain tensioners. The wheel bolt pattern has been converted to five lugs with 911 front suspension. Wheels are 7x15 911R Fuchs. You can read more about it here I´ll try to put picture about it here...

Thumbs up

Okay, I have a 914 also. Mine is a 1973 GT style with a CIS injected Turbocharged 1.7L.
My 914 has steel GT flares, Brad Mayeur's Longitudinal kit, 914-6 front struts with large BMW calipers (not 320), 5 lug rears, 7&8 by 15 Fuchs with Yokohama AVS 225/50's at all 4 corners, 22mm sway bar in front, 21mm torsion bars, 140 rear springs, urethane bushings, turbo tie rod ends, a front mounted oil cooler, full gauges, 5 point harness, etc... I did all of the building, painting and fabricating on this car. I get together with Dunkle and Ed Morrow at least once a year to terrorize some unsuspecting community.

Okay, that worked. If you want to see more pics of the engine and oil cooler installation, go to http://photos.yahoo.com/evill914
Here is a pic of the 1.7L Turbo. I am currently assembling a 2.0L engine for the 914.

Here's my 74 914. It is has a 2.0 motor with aftermarket exhaust and SSI heat exchanger. The car has plenty of power but I don't know if it has any other mods. I plan on adding sway bars, new shocks and tires and perhaps upgrading the brakes.
