Default Police and 914's

So I took my 914-6 track car out to get ice cream with my wife the other night. A police officer pulled me over and wanted to give me a ticket for my rear euro tail lights. He said they have to be red. I had to explain that the car came from the factory like that and that the car was from Germany. He let me off with a warning however. He also said my car was to loud and I was doing 70 in a 50. No way I was going that fast and YES the car is loud!

I think Jay means too loud... Makes sense in the context. His fingers were just frozen from the ice cream

Had a feeling that's what he meant but he had spelled it l-o-a-d twice so I thought maybe there was some weight issue I was missing.

Why were you venting? He was correct, taillights in this country must be red, regardless where it was built or originally sold. You should be happy he appriciated Porsches and gave you a warning.

Oh, I was very happy he let me off. Infact I wrote a letter to the station thanking his Capt. for his prefessional attitude and his understanding. I was joking around when I said venting and trying to make excuses for my spelling mistakes. - Jay

Jay is a serious deliquent. He should have been arrested. Not to mention the fact that his car shouldn't have even passed inspection. Can you say rust?

Glad I don't live there- I've got euro lenses on practically everything- suppose he'd give me a ticket for clear corners on my Cayenne... I'm just lucky I only get pulled over about once a year for not having a front plate on my vehicles...

Thanks Matty, glad to know the best man in my wedding has my back when it comes to the strong arms of the law! Also, how dare you insult my SIX!!!! RUST! Where? Them fightin' words sir! I believe your 914 hasn't seen the road in 2 years, so I wouldn't talk partner! HAHAHA

skl, Yeah we need to have front plates too. I also have euro lenses on everything I own as well. Gof rigures he picks my track car to pull over. Probably because it sticks out the most. To tell you the truth I haven't driven it since I was pulled over with it. Now I am all nervous to take it out.

The car is actually pretty "race" looking for the street. Between the flares, cage, and stance, I'm not too surprised. Plus, the cops can be a little over aggressive right there.

I've never been stopped for the Euro lenses. Plenty of other things though......

What specifically is the problem with euro lenses? I've had yellow turn signals and red brake lights on many recent cars (1990 VW and 1998 Audi) Is the yellow portion shared with the parking lights?

I just got a ticket the other day for no front plate on my Jetta...after 8 years of no front plate in NJ. It's on there now, but the 911 with historic plates will not get a front plate any time soon.

I don't know the actual law, but the cop said that all of the taillights that are lit up need t be red. So I couldn't tell you. I think he thought I was some punk kid driving some rice rocket and was looking for anything to pull me over. Then he saw it was a Porsche and I was with my wife and he relized he percieved me wrong.

So you don't care about the rules?

As for euro lenses, stop and tail lenses must be red. Turn signals can be amber or red. The problem comes from amber tails or clear. Stop lights must be red, regardless of where the car was made.
