Offer price for 1974 limited edition 914?
Hi,
I have a long time friend looking to sell her 1974 limited edition 914. I have always liked the car and now have a chance to purchase it. I would consider the car to be in good condition with the interior being very good. The car is a hunter green (with mostly original paint) and shows 60K miles. She has been the owner for 25+ years and has put about half of the miles shown and it has been garage kept under a cover since she has owned it. The car had a minor right front accident which was fixed about 20 years ago and the exhaust need replacing. Other than the exhaust, possibly paint (since it is somewhat faded), the car just needs a good going over which I can do myself. She was offered $10K for the car 4-5 years ago from a 914 enthusiast and did not sell at that time. Without pics to show, what would seem to be a reasonable price for the car without taking any emotions (buyer or seller) into account?
Thanks,
Steve

I wouldn't sell mine for less than $35k (and it's not for sale as I'm saving it for my son) but it has a lot of high dollar mods on it too with a custom motor. For a stock one in decent shape that doesn't need much, I'd say $15k is fair to both of you, as they're also appreciating.

Thanks for the input. Your car looks really nice. That is actually the exact number I had in mind. I did not mention, but the car is 100% stock in original hunter green (or whatever it might be called). I would like to take the car back to showroom condition, as I am more a purist, which I think could be done without extreme effort as it has major potential without any real road time in the last 20 years. I'll post pics once she sends me some and keep you informed.
PS: I didn't think anyone actually lived in Clemson. Go *****!!!!

What does the car show to make you think it is an L.E. ?
What color was it before becoming 'green' ?
The only '74 car colors known to exist in an L.E. are the 'Bumblebees' and the 'Creamsicles'.
Rumors of a 'Grasshopper' in green and white have so far never been proven to exist of an original production car from Porsche ....
We also need to know far more info on the condition of the chassis parts vulnerable to rust, stresses, frame tearing, and body integrity near the battery tray, seat, floor, and longitudinal near that area. Dry, unrusted, unbroken cars are few to none in this world and those which have escaped this horror command the large dollars.
The rest all command the 'large dollars' going into their resurrection.....

You are 100% correct as I had the color wrong...it’s been 15 years since I last saw it and I guess my memory sucks. It is black with yellow and she said it was a bumblebee. She had already listed the car and I’m guessing it’s already gone. The few pics were amazing and it is rust free except in the battery box. Someone is getting a steal and an amazing ride as she had it advertised for $15k.

Gotta wonder if there is rust in the battery box , and if that is all there is, and that's a BIG if, then 15K would be a great deal... if still availlable, get it up on a rack and really look it over, and then buy it!

I assume you looked at/bought it on a Sunday. I spoke to The owner on Saturday and she said someone was looking at it the next day. I could not make it to Columbia for several weeks and she would not sell it without me looking over it. Hope you enjoy the car. I hope she doesn’t regret the sell since she bought it at 16. I know I would.

That was me....I did buy it that Sunday. I've had many 914's (I currently own 3 others besides this one) and this one is very solid. It does have rust in the hell hole. But, the rest of the car (longs, floor pans, sail panels, etc.) are solid.
The car needs a little fiddling (need to replace vacuum lines for FI, shifter bushings need replacing, muffler has a hole) to get the car on the road. I'll probably drop the engine to do all that and replace the fuel lines at the same time.
Yes, she was VERY sad to see her car leave.....
