Default Need top view of 930

Hello,

I'm mapping the 930 and a slantnose into a CAD program. I have several profile, and front and back pics.

I'm looking for top or ariel views of a wide body for initial tracing into the program. Anyone with links or pics that can help me out would be appriecated. Or any technical drawings would be great so I can wireframe it.

I have already 3D modeled a 928 and now I'm moving on to the 930. Eventually this will be going into a video where you race porsches.

I'm looking for overhead view like in my avatar.

Thanks,

Hey there.....umm...your avatar is the back of a 928.... I'm actually working on my 944 Turbo right now and have done most of a 930 (get back to it after I get the 944T and the 928 done) and mine are being done as photorealistic vehicles and I'm doing them in LightWave. You can see my 944 Turbo in my avatar right now, although that version is a bit old at this point and I've detailed it much further, primarily the interior.

Anyway, I have some orthographic views of the 930 if you are interested, side, top, front at least...maybe even the back. Drop me a PM or email me and I'll get 'em out to ya.

Would love to see more of your work and it sounds like it might be a cool video game...

Here is some of my work on the 3D shark. Still adding parts and tweaking it.

Mine are being done for photorealistic views and can be clean up for a videogame. I still need to do speculatar shading and drop on a car color shader.

Looking good so far!

Here is the 930 top that I have....smaller than I thought it was for some reason....ah well. Still it's a good sized image, better than many I have ran across online.

What software do you use? I'm running LightWave 7.5c and dearly wishing that 8 would hurry up and come out...

I'm hoping to finish up my 944 Turbo over the weekend and get doing final surfacing and start rendering some scenes by early next week. Then to finish up my 928 and the 911 Turbo.

Thanks,

That pic is exactly what I was looking for! My stuff is all in Maya 4 using polygons. I have a set up phone dialers and flats in 3D you might want to play with on your stuff.

There is one other rennlister that does this, has a sweet 911 to show off. I think I know a place to get free 944, or 914, and 911 stuff all in 3d studio. They have ferraris, lambos all types of stuff you can get and play with.

Glad that's what you needed! Hope to see your car when you get done with it.

Here's an Open GL view of a couple of my car parts so far, still WIP on the wheel/tire so no tread or finished parts there yet. Otherwise it's going very well.

Very cool Rich! Glad to know there are a few of us 3D'ers out there!

I have actually seen and downloaded some of the car models out there and I've been fairly unimpressed. There was one decent 911 Carrera (or SC) without a whale tail that I got once, but otherwise I've been less than impressed with the freebie cars out there.

Oh, here is a shot of the first car I did in Inspire 3D (LightWave's little brother). I didn't have a huge amount of reference available at that time and realized later that my model has very shallow air intakes compared to the real ones, but otherwise I'm pretty proud of her.

Andrew.

That is just fantastic! Almost over kill compared to Project Gotham Racing. Very well done and great resume piece. I'm just learning OpenGL. Have any sample stuff to share?

Thanks Tom! I've been doing 3D as a prep to a career and a bit of freelancing since late, late 1999. Got my first demo ready right when the last big strikes hit in the entertainment world and production shut down so many things that I'm sure that probably was a big hurt to me getting a job then. So, I was out of money at that point and had to have some work and so I got one here that I don't really like, started doing another demo and saving some money again (and got my Porsche along the way).

My Porsche 962 that you see there has something like 250,000 polygons. With image maps the entire thing is like 60MB of data, over 110MB if you look at the original PSD texture files. The 944 Turbo will probably have a very good number of polys as well, but maybe not as many as the 962 had. I build mine towards the goal of being able to render an image of them in a real world shot and not being able to tell the difference between the CG cars and the real thing. Overkill? For a game, very much so....for an ILM or DD or other CG company doing a movie, just right :-)

The Open GL I mentioned is simply how LightWave's Modeler shows your work so I really don't have anything as far as programming an Open GL item that I could show you. The look there has very limited lighting on your model and doesn't show a lot of the surfacing detail that I've setup for the car like the reflection, etc. I don't actually do any programming myself....I spend all my time building, animating and rendering my creations. I also write and do video stuff as well, although not as much of those two things as I'd like of late. If you'd like to see a part from one of my cars to get a feel for how I build them though, I'll send one to you, just let me know.

WOW! Does anyone that do this have a 944 with S2 wing already modeled out? Ide love to have some various shots of a blue S2 in 3D like that! I redesigned the skin in Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed to match my car, but its nowhere near as good as these! WOW!

Hey Tony,

Thanks

Actually it's very easy to modify this 3d model to put a different wing on it. I am working to finish up my 951 as the base, then I'm going to do various wheels, wings, etc. for the car, partly so I can do what you are talking about....try out different wheels, wings, spoilers, colors, etc. on the car for fun. I also plan to do some animations of some of these cars doing donuts etc. which are bad for tearing things up on real cars. Plus some other animations of it sitting around, driving down the interstate, etc. I am also working on a 930 and a 928 to come after this one gets finished and then who knows....a 993 Ruf was always one I wanted to do.....

I was kind of planning on saving my little surprise until I was finished with the car, but looks like I let the cat out of the bag....but at least most of the 944 board hasn't seen it yet....sssssshhhhhh!!!!!!! If all goes well I hope to have it done in a couple of more weeks and want it to look downright realistic in the images I make of it.
