1979 930 For Sale
I plan to keep an eye on this sale. Not sure but would assume this would be close to a record high.

Wasn't this car equipped with a trombone/loop cooler from the factory, as well?
Out of curiosity, what's that additional cylinder inboard of the right-hand thermal reactor?

Yes, trombone/loops from the factory. Even though the late U.S. 1979’s were built in the Porsche 1980 model year, the U.S. cars did not get the upgraded RoW 1980 oil coolers. The additional cylinder inboard of the right-hand thermal reactor is stock but I don’t recall the purpose.

"The car remains in 100 percent excellent original and unmolested condition with the exception of an upgraded stereo and upgraded headlights (originals included)"
You just have to love the double talk of "Used car salesman"......either it is 100% stock/original or it's not .......which is it ..........can't have it both ways !

Guess we'll just add that to the list of non-"100% original and unmolested": radio, headlights, cooler...

I feel much of the driving force behind the extraordinary price increase.on the early 3.3 930's is directly related to its tie to Motorsports These early cars received some notable performance enhancements directly related to the 917 and RSR Turbo that were not found on the earlier 3.0 930's. And, while the intent of these changes remained for most part, some, such as the brakes and the fuel head were redesigned on later versions. Another "cool factor" about the early cars is that they do not have catalytic converters so you can sneak in some high octane petrol down at the track and make them smell just like a real race car!
In 1979 the 930's bigger brother the 935 took the overall win at LeMans, the 1st production variant to do so since 1956. During this race, some 934's began a switch away from the original "whale tail" to the "tea tray" spoiler to increase stability and top end on the Mulsanne Straight. The tail and the brakes are the only outward visual difference between an early 3.3 and 3.0i. Inside one of the only changes you will find are the markings on the boost gauge.

Honestly who the hell knows what's going on with these prices...one thing that is known that at these prices, the cars will become huge paperweights....which is a bit sad cause these cars were meant to be driven...at the minimum, once or twice a month.
Now I understand the interest of these old girls...their visceral creatures as well as nostalgic..free from all the aids that modern sports cars have. The 930(plus older Porsche's of the same era) make you realize your limitations real quick but most of the time give you a chance to recover. New cars mask your limitations, thus making you feel like you're a far better driver than you realize..but by the time you realize that your not as great as you believe..your speed may be to high..giving you just enough time to bend down and kiss your a$$ goodbye...now I know that is a bit dramatic...but I think you guys get the picture...one thing though I'm talking stock 930... Modified 930... Now that is not for the faint of heart..you may want to bend down and kiss you buttocks prior to turning the key...

Hopefully I will be able to enjoy the smells, sounds, and raw feel of mine and buck the trend if this craziness continues.

BTW, how are the two boost gauges different? Would you happen to have a picture?
