Both have their ups/downs. I know some people will disagree but I feel the 951 is more of a daily driver kinda car than the 930. But I have never driven a 930 with the 5 speed. The looks of a 930 are to die for IMHO. Both very upgradeable, I would say the 930 would cost more to maintain. To sum it up..you need both!

I plan on getting a 930 in the near future. I'll probably buy and build a 3.3turbo motor long before. I currently own a 951 (86). I have driven one 930. It was in nasty shape. But I still think it was more fun to drive. They are more like go karts than the 951's are. You would have to drive one yourself to see what I mean. Other than that, I agree with Mr. Grant's "HO"!

I have an 89 930 with the 5speed and drive it as much as I can. The 5 speed makes a big difference since it keeps the car in boost better. I've said this before, a 951 is one of my favorite cars to drive because they are very forgiving cars and very easy to jump in and feel comfortable driving it fast. A 911 and specifically a 930 with modified horsepower is challenging to drive, is crude inside, but you can't help but not lust after the shape of a 930.

The 944 should be cheaper to maintain. The life of the 930's engine is far less than the 44. Once it gets close to 70k look to do atleast the top end on the car and depending on how it is driven maybe P's and C's as well. The 944 as you know doesn't require valve adjustments and the 930 will but no t-belts.

The 930 will leak more oil but will also get more looks.

We have a 76 turbo carrera with 34k on it in for service and man am I going to be heart broken when it goes home.

My view:

Looks: 930
Driveability: 944TS
Performance: 944TS
Upgrade-ability: Both are equal, 951 is cheaper to mod
Brakes: 944TS
Handling: 944TS
Suspension: 944TS
That special something: 930

Personally, and I stuck my money where my mouth is, I wouldn't consider anything older than a 91 C2T if you are moving from an 89 951. The Turbo S is an amazing car, read my tagline for more info

Cool

I like both car. Never have the chance to drive a 944TS, but I think if you are a true Porsche fan at least you have to own one in life. other car that I never drive it is a 928GTS and would like to own someday. My cars have been always 911s, 81 911SC coupe, 83SC Turbo Look, 84Carrera coupe and now I have a 82 930. And I think the feeling when you drive a 911 or a 930 it is unique and like someone said it have that special something that no other car have.

Brian,

Good luck! The 930 would be perfect compliment to your 951. Think of it as chocolate mousse! Not everyday do you eat one but when you do, you'll know you did.
