With the performance and temptation available in these cars it is foolhardy to trust old tires, even old never mounted tires. I hope I'm not sounding preachy but I'm a motorcyclist and very cautious about my rubber. There is probably ample info on old rubber somewhere in the archives on Rennlist and Pelican.

I agree with the 1st part that Dave wrote that "There seem to be sufficient choices for the early 78-79's". For US cars, the 77-79 930's don't seem to have a problem, it is the 15" tall 76's and the later cars with the 9" wide rears that have the problem with finding tires that match.

But, I agree with what ahenthus says about old(er) tires. I'm not an expert, but there's too much written on the subject to ignore what people say. Bravo to his last statement, "There is probably ample info on old rubber somewhere in the archives on Rennlist and Pelican."

Tire rack is currently showing two choices for 16 inch wheels for our cars: they are BF Goodrich and Toyo and are p205/55zr16 and p245/45 zr16.http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...=46400&tab=All

I saw those two on the Tire Rack site but they are Track and Competition tires. Not necessarily ideal for everyday driving conditions.

But hey, they're round and made of rubber, right? Beggars can't be choosers at this point.

So what is a track and competition tire, for those of us that are just as happy to blast down the country roads? Slicks, super-soft rubber for traction, what?

Ok I stand corrected again....by myself

Potenza RE-11's are V rated up front (up to 149 mph) and W rated in back (up to 168)
And should fit on your 16" Fuchs. Ask tire rack to be sure.

Just bought (yesterday) 4 Bridgestone Potenza's 205 55 r16s and 245 45 16s from tire rack. FWIW

Thanks Six Gun. I'll go back to the Tire Rack site and do another search.

I think you wil do well to call rather than do a search. I had the rack do the search.

I will call them. Have you tried going up in tire size(225/265)? Wondering if that would cause any issues.

I noticed if you search by 930, 928 S4/GT, 944 Turbo S (all taking 245's in rear) on tirerack, it will not show the Potenza RE-11 that fit.

But if you just search by size, they show up, also see this:

I would have no problem with the Toyos for fair weather street use.

In October 2010, I bought the following from Tire Rack:

205/55R16 Fuzion ZRI ($87.00 ea.)
245/45R16 Fuzion ZRI ($106.00 ea.)

Plus $48.22 freight to my local shop for mounting.

They are made in Japan, and quite good. I can recommend these, even if the brand is not well known.
