Mario & Dave,
I'm no tire expert but if you're planning on stockpiling you should do a little Googling on the topic before investing. Tires are perishable items that lose they're properties with time. The PO of my car bought the car with pretty much full tread on a set of Michelin Sport Pilots and couldn't get traction because they were old and hardened. With the performance and temptation available in these cars it is foolhardy to trust old tires, even old never mounted tires. I hope I'm not sounding preachy but I'm a motorcyclist and very cautious about my rubber. There is probably ample info on old rubber somewhere in the archives on Rennlist and Pelican.

But, I agree with what ahenthus says about old(er) tires. I'm not an expert, but there's too much written on the subject to ignore what people say. Bravo to his last statement, "There is probably ample info on old rubber somewhere in the archives on Rennlist and Pelican."

So what is a track and competition tire, for those of us that are just as happy to blast down the country roads? Slicks, super-soft rubber for traction, what?

Ok I stand corrected again....by myself
Potenza RE-11's are V rated up front (up to 149 mph) and W rated in back (up to 168)
And should fit on your 16" Fuchs. Ask tire rack to be sure.

I noticed if you search by 930, 928 S4/GT, 944 Turbo S (all taking 245's in rear) on tirerack, it will not show the Potenza RE-11 that fit.
But if you just search by size, they show up, also see this:

In October 2010, I bought the following from Tire Rack:
205/55R16 Fuzion ZRI ($87.00 ea.)
245/45R16 Fuzion ZRI ($106.00 ea.)
Plus $48.22 freight to my local shop for mounting.
They are made in Japan, and quite good. I can recommend these, even if the brand is not well known.
