Default Tires

Trying to find new tires for my 87 930(16 inch). Can't seem to find any street tires. Does anyone have a source? Thanks

Mario,
A previous owner had my Fuchs converted from 16" to 17" 3 piece modulars. There are no decent 16" tires available now and a very short list of 17" tires. Your best bet may be to go to 18" wheels. I'm not sure what I'll do when the time comes. Tires are not an item that you can stockpile for future use so I hope there is a good tire for me when I need them. The 17" Sumitomos I now have are still basically new. They also seem to be working great for my purposes. I don't track my car and have no intention to so my tires will probably age out before wearing out treadwise. Let me know when Doc's is finished with yours and I'll drive down and let you see my Fuchs. I'll post a picture below. I love the looks of the original Fuchs and they look even better as modulars.

Looks like (from this thread https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=39370 ) That you can up size the front from 205/55-16 to 225/50-16 and leave the rears at 245/45-16. If that is true Tire rack has Potenza RE-11's that might work. Pricey at $215 and $179 but it beats the price of slicing up your wheels.

Please check your facts because I'm no expert. Just happen to be in the same situation.

Scratch that. That is an R-Rated tire. Only good to 106 mph. Sorry

The thread is also 3 1/2 years old. I'm not really advocating Mario "slice" his Fuchs up, only that a PO did that to mine and it is an alternative. Also, a car that is modded probably needs more footprint than stock. My tires are 315/35ZR17 and 245/45ZR17.

Dont get me wrong. I see nothing wrong with slicing up some fuchs. In fact I have looked into doing my wheels. However some folks may not want to. I would do some frosted RSR style wheels. BTW I only referenced that old thread for tire size info and then serched tire rack for tires available in those sizes.

Thanks for the reply guys. I was really hoping to keep the original Fuchs but may not have an option if I cannot get tires. Claude, just returned from Doc's. It will most likely be end of next week before they are finished with the car. Will let you know so we can schedule time to get together.

Its funny people are asking $3k and more for their 930 fuchs, but you can't even buy tires for them.

I agree. I love the look of the Fuchs and hate the fact I may have to replace them or significantly alter them. Does anyone from TireRack monitor the forums since they are a major sponsor?

In the UK we can get continental N1 tyres for 16" wheels. I have just paid 170 pounds fitted for both fronts.
Are these available in North America? I run continental N1 tyres all round.

Just checked the Continental web site as well as Tire Rack and they do not appear to be available in the US.

There appear to be tires available in the size for 78-79; wonder if I should buy some for the future while still available?

If anyone has a source for 930 tires(original 16" Fuchs), please let me know. I plan to stockpile some for the future as well.

Mario & Dave,
I'm no tire expert but if you're planning on stockpiling you should do a little Googling on the topic before investing. Tires are perishable items that lose they're properties with time. The PO of my car bought the car with pretty much full tread on a set of Michelin Sport Pilots and couldn't get traction because they were old and hardened. With the performance and temptation available in these cars it is foolhardy to trust old tires, even old never mounted tires. I hope I'm not sounding preachy but I'm a motorcyclist and very cautious about my rubber. There is probably ample info on old rubber somewhere in the archives on Rennlist and Pelican.

Oops, their properties (my post above). I hate seeing this type of spelling error so I'm busting myself.
