Default 930 Diagnosis help needed

New member here! Have a '86 930 with 50K. Very stock. Car has always run well until now. Symptoms:

-very hard to start, mostly when cold> fires but then immediately dies
-if it does start it just spits and sputters until warmed up by holding down gas down slightly, for awhile
-hesitates upon acceleration, until it is completely up to normal operation temp.

I have heard this could be caused by fuel accum., fuel pumps and other things. This advice did not come from knowledgable folks. Sure appreciate help narrowing things down.

Thanks,
Dave

There is also a thread on this forum that is very helpful but I believe it mimics the post on the Pelican site. Btw, your car is gorgeous. Love the color.

Default Thanks for the suggestions!

Also thanks for the nice comment on my car. Funny, I periodically look at the newer 911s and Caymens as possible alternatives but they are just too.... smooth, sedate, or something. They are wonderful but almost too refined. My opinion of course.

Default color

I like that color. Is it grey? Or silver in bad lighting. Any way we need more pics. Philip

Sounds like your cold start valve or thermotime switch. check your connections at these components

Default Car color...

Philip, the color is Meteor Metallic. That is the original paint with some sort of protection put on at the factory. Got this car about 9 years ago from Stan Winston- animatronics etc. guy (Jurassic Park, etc.) who ordered it from the factory, picked it up in Germany and shipped it back after filming Predator (I think...). I have been very pleased to say the least. He was a fanatic about car care- it is almost new in every way still.

Check the fuel pump relays. Could be something as minor as a bit of corrosion on a contact.

Pretty car.

I would concur...the first place to look. Next, have someone check your cold and warm control pressures at the WUR.

If the thermotime switch and/or injector are acting up, you may have a hard time starting the car...and if your cold control pressures are too high, you won't have the properly rich mixture once started to keep her running well until warmed up. The lower cold control pressure is synonymous to pulling in the choke on a carbureted car.

Default Wheels...

Thanks for all the kind remarks and diagnositc ideas. Yep, I have had mixed feelings about the updated wheels. The biggest issue was these are not Turbo wheels so they needed BIG spacers. No bearing issues yet... Sometimes I like the updated, newer "big wheel" look but it also is a bit detracting from the classic lines of the car. What do you all think of the BBS mesh look?

yes the fuchs wheels look better( period correct ) but if you are going to go bigger ,a RUF 17 inch would look just as good. Call RUF USA in Michigan, I hear they(RUF) are going to reissue a new batch of the classic 5 star 17 inch wheels( made by speedline ).

BTW this is a good read that may help you with your starting problem http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-9...me-switch.html

Also: Gorgeous car you have there my friend.....
