They have been running a new episode of the show what's my car worth with a 87 930 with 8,000 original miles. Its on hd theatre discovery channel. This particular 930 was all original and overall a beautiful car however I was very suprised at the high values put on the car. Keith Martin estimated that it would bring 75k and the owner estimated the same and the car ended up bring 70k. Even with the low mileage I figured the car would bring upper 50's at most.

The 930's are worth more than folks realize. Good early 75-77 almost never show up on open market, excellent low mileage 78-79 have been selling for 60-80k for a while.

Prices are all over the place. The 930 is a great car if all checks out. Even a low mileage car can be a money pit. It all comes down to what the seller and buyer thinks is worth. About 8 years ago my previous mechanic sold his 82 930 with 482 miles( yes I said 482 miles) for 30k. Car was in excellent shape( physically) but due to use needed some mechanical work...my point is that mileage shouldn't always be the main focal point of worth. I am not in the market at this point but I do lurk the classifieds on a daily basis(hobby). I have seen great examples go for a very fair deal as I have seen some not so great example demand an outrageous asking price. A lot of factors go into what a car should be worth but in the end as I stated before it is up to the seller and a buyer what the end price will be.
My advice to anyone is do your research, gather as much information, ask questions then proceed forward.
The 930 is a car I will own in the very near future and hopefully with any luck I will end up with a very nice example for a very fair price...

These cars are coming into their own. They are unique in look and performance and their style is classic in all ways. Even if people do not know what it is they love it. and if they get a ride they try to buy it. They are more than transportation....they are fun.. Porsche has not made one in over 20 years. and plenty of new customers from all over the world love them.. prices will rise. But, I say, enjoy the drive.

In looking around on the web I'm still seeing most prices at the 30-40k range these being cars with mostly 100k+ miles and have been modified not all original. Even in this forum there are threads with people selling what appear to be decent 930 for high 20's low 30's. I guess it just freaked me out to see the appraisals that high for 930's as 60-90k would be way out of my price/comfort range. I thought only thr Richard Sloan type cars were in the upper five figures.

I too feel that these cars...though currently way undervalued due to the economy (that's the excuse anyway)...will only increase in valve over time if kept in very good condition. And if I'm not still driving it when I retire, it may become a significant part of my income. And if not, who cares, life is too short to live without a 930 to scream around in.

A pretty good number of 930/911 Turbos were built from the mid 70s through 1989. However, today how many have very low mileage and are in all original condition? Also as this car comes into its own people may want to add them to a collection or show them, in which case an original correct car is generally more valuable and may be preferred to a restored car.
Sure people can buy examples with wear and tear, higher miles, modded (and then try to convert them back to original), but sometimes the cost of making all the repairs (clutch, turbo), a good repaint if needed, redoing the interior if needed, and then adding all the original parts back if the Fuchs were sold/traded for aftermarket wheels, getting original exhaust rather than aftermarket, etc. + labor and time involved can be more costly than buying a correct original car with original low mileage, even if that car may need some hoses replaced, new tires, and maybe replacing some gaskets. In the end buying the show car at a premium, provided its a reasonable premium, can be cheaper than trying to bring an average condition car up to show car standards.
Everyone is different, and there are plenty of very reasonably priced, very good condition drivers out there. The very low mileage "time warp" showroom condition cars will get a premium because there probably aren't that many out there. These are cars that will probably be bought by people that want to show them and drive them sparingly, rather than mod or track them.
Hopefully, there will still be plenty of reasonably priced nice drivers when you are ready to get one.
Best regards,
Dino

The 930 is the next 911S in terms of desirability and collectibility. Thats my prediction. The 930 isnt just an iconic car, its an icon for almost a generation and lifestyle (big 80s flair).
