Default 930 Tire Opinions Please

Fellow 930 Experts-

My car is a 1987 930 and it's time for new tires. I use the car for occasional fun drives and tours. No track time. Which tires should I get? I have a '72 911S that I put Coker XWXs on for the correct look. What is period correct for the 930 or should I go with something else?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I'll check the Fuzion tires out. The car his Michelin tires on it now however they are quite old. Thank you for your input.

There are also Kumho Ecstas that will allow you to run 225 up front and 265 in the rear.

+ 1 on the Fuzions.

Bridgestone makes them and they're very good street tires in both wet and dry conditions.

Yikes what happens if they stop making the Fuzions in those sizes? There won't be any options left for the Fuchs crowd?

At the risk of being flamed here.....Shelve the fuchs, and keep them for photo shoots only. Then move on up to more modern rim diameters with proper performance tires.

If you absolutely must stick with the Fuch style, go with a nice set of Lindsey's. After you do so, you'll wonder why you waited so long!

i shall be the first to flame you. i purchased a set of fikse wheels hoping for an upgrade but all i got was a set of heavy anchors that diminished performance. the car feels much more nimble and agile with the original fuchs. i save almost 40 pounds between all four wheels when reverting back to the fuchs. there is a reason almost everyone with a 930 still runs the original fuchs, and the fuzion tires work great

definately get the XS in 265/225

no problem with 265s on a 9" fuch which I believe the 87 has, I cramed them on to my 8" rears

While I agree that the Fuchs wheel is a very nice wheel, I must disagree with your "heavy anchor" reference as it relates to the Fikse wheel. The stock Fuchs wheels weigh 14.2 pounds each front and 16 pounds each rear. In the same width but 1" larger diameter 17" wheels the Fikse FM10 wheels weigh 16.5 pounds and 17.6 pounds. It is however uncommon that one would upgrade the wheels and maintain the same width. In a more common 17x8 front width the Fikse FM10 weighs 16.9 pounds and 17x10" weighs 18.2 pounds. The total increase of weight to upgrade to a wider, larger diameter wheel is 9.8 pounds total. With this slight increase in weight you are able to choose from a wide variety of tires that make the 930 much more fun to drive.

i had 18 by 11.5 mach V and 18 by 8 in the front and ran 235 40 18 and 315 30 18. when we weighed all 4 wheels and tires compared to the fuchs the weight savings was around 40 pounds between all 4 wheels
