Default Does anyone know this 1977 Turbo

I was wondering if anyone here knows this car? It looks really clean from the photos (but we all know how those can be misleading sometimes). I'm in Houston and was thinking of making an offer on the car.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...ht_1198wt_1167

Has anyone had experience with the seller? They aren't really willing to let the car leave their premises for an inspection, which is understanding to some degree as it looks mint.

Anyone have any thoughts on price and/or things I may want to consider based on the description/photos?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Nice car, love the color and the plaid interior. Price is subjective as nice early cars are hard to come by. Personally, I would want the proper tail for that price, and would insist on an independent inspection too. Engine could easily be tired at that mileage.

The seller said I could come and inspect it, but he won't release to another facility, which I believe will rule out a thorough mechanical inspection. I don't really know anyone in the area, so I think I will have to pass on this one. I'll check the other threads for additional info.

Some deviations from originality don't concern me that much, but I suppose that impacts value and the asking price may be too high in light of those modifications.

Looks very original except for the tail. Maybe the tail was changed in the 80s. An orignal tail might be hard to come by.

I'm new to this game....BUT, high mileage (72k) and Concours seems to be an oxymoron.

You have been spending too much time watching Mercurm Auto Auctions, ck. out the preservation class candidates at the last Parade.

Default From another RL thread

This "Broker" (ie: scumbag used car dealer that knows nothing) describes this car as "concours" and "unmodified" which it is not.

With only a brief glance, I notice 10 things wrong with this car;

1. headllight squirts are from '79 later not correct for '77
2. Headlights are incorrect for '77
3. passenger mirror is incorrect on '77
4. Carpet should be green NOT black (as stated in ad)
5. Ad states that cars has perfect OE 15" fuchs yet photos clearly show 16" Continental tires .... well, which is it?
6. Decklid-Turbo tail are from '78 later not correct for '77 (as stated in ad)
7. Turbo script is incorrect for '77, should read Turbo Carrera for ALL '76 &'77
8. Tail lights are incorrect euro examples
9. Rear bumper is incorrect (as stated in ad)
10. Factory emissions hoses and valves are missing.

It seems to be a pretty car but I never trust a guy that states that the car is "concours" and "unmodified" and his own photos prove he's either uneducated or a liar ......... neither of which is acceptable since his website states that they are "German & Exotic Auto Remarketing Specialists"

It will take +/- $10k to make this car truly "concours" !

Pretty color though !

Baron or anyone,
I actually know the person who is buying this car and he needs some help identifiying the missing parts, specifically the Factory emissions hoses and valves that are missing.
Other thing that I noticed was that the car looks lower than other '77s that I have seen, the original rear spoiler is included with the car.
Does anyone have a picture or could give me a description of what of what is missing, I would really apreciate any help!
Thanks!!

930 and stock are the most common oxymorons. These are probably the most modified cars in Porsche history. Not many true preservation cars around.

But, minor cosmetic changes that dont take away from the visual intention of the original are okay in my book if sold and listed as "relatively stock" or "relatively unmolested". Just be clear in the ads. In this case, obviously there were errors. But, perhaps it wasn't enough to matter to the buyer.
