Anyone know what the 3rd window switch is for?
Also, interesting door-mounted gauges, are those Ruf mounts?
To the OP: hope your purchase works out one way or another.

third switch is for the power locks, they put a boost **** where the door lock button was in the center stack. That's the problem with that car, a lot of loose wires. The gauge doesn't work on the door.

No, those are not Ruf mods. The only things I see that are genuine Ruf are:
1 - wheels
2 - steering wheel
3 - dash boost gauge (maybe speedo)
4 - Maybe front spoiler (looks odd to me, but I could be wrong)
The front and rear mats are not from Ruf. Probably a 3rd party repro.

Everybody comments about what a RUf is or isn't..
Need to understand that through the 80's US spec 930 Ruf cars will be an amalgamation of parts as dictated by the owner who purchased. The US distributor for Ruf at the time this car was probably built was Exclusive Motorcars in NJ. During those days, you could drop your car off for a Ruf upgrade to include level that you wanted or could afford, or you could order the parts you wanted and install or have your local shop do the work... either way it wasn't going to be cheap!
If you wanted a BTR etc.., you could drop the car off and Ruf would either ship an engine and 5spd or the ship the needed parts to build your engine to thier specs. They fly a tech in from Germany that would perform the build and install in this shop. ( makes me pucker top think about it $$$)
It wasn't until the very late 80's early 90's that Ruf started to get "bodies in white" from Porsche and affix their own vin #s. These were ROW cars only. Not US bound cars. Any Ruf 930 in the US with a Ruf Vin # is a grey market car.
To me, this car looks like one that was built to customer order. Looks very well executed, however it obviously lost the Ruf IC and exhaust somewhere along the way. Not uncommon though. I have seen the door mounted gauges on several other cars, as well as the dash mount Escort radar detector. There was a company in NY that was known for the stealth detector thing.. maybe they did the gauge pice as well. Also, if you notice in the console, there is a Ruf adjustble boost ****.
My car was upgraded by the original owner with Ruf IC, front spoiler, wheels, muffler and guages.. on the 2nd round of upgrades which included slantnose conversion using factory parts from Alan Jonson Racing, and a motor build by Powerhaus the IC got swapped for an Andial unit, and the gauges went away for colored units. Owner # 2 who used the car very little thought the muffler was too loud and replaced it with a stock unit and changed the wheels to Supercups! The only remaining Ruf item is the front spoiler!
Anyway, my point being that it appears to be a nice car.. if it PPIs ok I wouldn't hesitate to jump.

I know this car it is clean but had some electrical issues that may have been cleared up it was purchased about two years ago from Paul Resnick at PAR in Yonkers New York. The electrical issues may be minor because the original owner had express windows and that sort of gadgetry put in.

Thanks Bill..
Just trying to help sort some of the fact from fiction surounding these unique cars. I'd like to think the car in question deserves a nice home.
Schnele: That sounds about right, explains that extra window switch. I thought there was a NY connection with this car.. as I reconized the extra gauge placement and the custom remote radar detector. I almost bought a Platinum/lobster 930 some years back with the same pieces.. all work being done out of that NY shop.

i spoke to the dealer in detail today about the car and they were frank and honest with me , esp. after they realized i did some checking up on the car, they admitted it is not mechanically a ruf 930 but pretty much a 930 turbo with ruf mods. the owner also told me he knew the story what had happened with you in the past before they purchased the car and state they fixed the problems:
-they found the stalling problem was a faulty ignition control module and was replaced
-rebuilt tranny 2 mos ago and major service
- third switch on door was locking switch and is operating well
- removed all the wiring from the old stereo and found loads of loose wires, etc and replaced stereo head
- no shut off switch now under drivers panel when they bought car and must have been removed prior
they state the car has been driven since they got it over 3 mos ago and no stalling.
i then told them their price of 36.5 k is unrealistic for a comparable 930 turbo of that year and mileage ' they then gave me the sales pitch of how much a real ruf 930 turbo would sell for but i rebounded with the prices of their ruf mod add ons would be. they hung up and told me has to speak to his partner. got a call back one hour ago and when i told them i would give them 28.5k they countered with 35k and i said have a nice day. just got a voicemail their last offer is 33.5 and almost at price what they are in the car for... what do you think?

Are you in New York? That's kind of ironic. It was owned by a guy in White Plains I think. As mentioned above, Paul Allen Resnick (PAR Porsche) was the dealer in New York that had it before these guys. It really looks good. I'd worry a little about the extremely low mileage on a car of that age. Pull a current CarFax or similar report. I pulled one on this car a couple of years ago and noticed that it sat idle with no mileage increase for several years. That is not good for the engine.
Still it is a really good looking car. If you are prepared for the potential maintenance then do it.
