Default tire size question

I have RUF speedline 17's. I will need new tires soon and before I buy, I would like to make sure that I have the right size tires currently on the car. So should I keep the same size tires or go a bit bigger?

Front: 235/45/17
Rear: 255/40/17

Thanks,
Steve

Ruf recommends 235/40/17 front(9x17) and 255/40/17 rear(10x17). Those are the tire sizes I use on my Ruf Speedlines with no issues. I suppose you could go bigger but I would be concerned with rubbing, especially on the front.

I asked a tire size question on Pelican earlier this week. I'm looking at either 235/40/17 front & 275/40/17 rear, or 245/40/17 & 315/35/17. They both will fit. Heck, Craig over on Pelican is running 275/335 or something crazy like that. Just a little rubbing at full lock, he says. I think Jeremy Cottrell from TRE is currently running Ruf wheels on his 930 with the tire sizes listed by OSI930.

On a 9 inch front wheel, you can run a 255, and have no rubbing issues. A 10 inch wheel really shouldn't have anything wider than a 275 on it.

I run 255/40 & 315/35, on 9/11 x 17 wheels. Your max widths would be 255 front & 275 rear with the Ruf 9/10 x 17's.

Thanks Garen. I am planning on running 235 front and 275 rear. So now for my next question. Should I be 40 front and rear or should I be 45 front and 40 rear.

Steve,

I currently have 275/40 rears on my Rufs if you want to see what they look like. I will probably go back to 255s soon as they don't allow you to lower the car much. If I were you I'd consider the 235/255 set up.

Todd, that is a good point. I do plan on lowering the car a bit more. I like the slammed look!

Give me a call if you want to talk about it, I'm shopping new tires right now. My car is lowered, but not as far as I'd like. I had to shave the rubber on the inner fender portion of my front spoiler to keep it from rubbing. I have had the tire catch the inner front fender and bend it and in the rear I have a line around my tires from the fender hitting them under suspension compression. I put a used set of PZero Rossos up front (temporarily, while I try to figure out which way I want to go) that are narrower and 1) I like the way they sit on the wheel/in the fender better and 2) there is at least another inch now that I could lower the car.

I think the 40 profile is closer to stock diameter (205/50/16) than 235/45/17.

I have 235/45F & 275/40R on my RUF wheels (8/9x17) and can break the rears loose too easily in hard acceleration, so looking to go wider myself. No rubbing issues. Unfortunately I'm going to need 10-11" in the rear so these wheels will have to go byebye. In any case, although I have fully adjustable sways and suspension, the 235/275 combination provides better contact patch balance Front to Rear IMHO than 255 would offer. I'd definately not want to go any narrower in the rear that's for sure!

Well, if you are going to/willing to, buy new wheels in order to get wider skins & you wish to lower it. Look into custom rim offsets, & you can get away with a lot. I'm running 8.5 x 17 fronts & 11 x 18 rears with 245/45 & 295/40's. The car is 2 3/4" lower than Euro spec.'s, no rubbing issues, no clearance issues, no handling issues.
My only problem is ground clearance, & I'm the only one to blame for that....wanting a stupid low car....sheeez!!!

Good to know. I have decided to stay with the 255 in the rear since I plan on going as low as possible.
Thanks for all the help guys.
