Default squeaky noise

I have been enjoying the 930 though I have noticed a light squeaky noise from the front right of the car even on smooth roads . I have tried turning the a/c fan on as well as the defroster on with no change( still squeaks no change in sound)When car is parked fans do not squeak. If any one has had similar experience I would love to hear about it.

Does it stop squeaking when it is wet out or right after you wash your car? If so, the rubber bushings that hold the bar to the chassis under the protective cover behind the gas tank may be rusty or just dry.

Do you think it is a fan or something else? There are fans in the footwells of later model 930's. Could it be one of them?

With the car parked, if you push down on the right front fender can you hear it? It might be a torsion bar or suspension bushing.

Default squeaks

The sound or squeak I dont think is suspension related because I have pushed down on the fender with no noise however i will look around the gas tank area.Idont drive the car in rain only sunny days so possible dry rubber.

Default squeak

Almost impossible to diagnois from our vantage point.

It is like playing 20 questions but I'll try:

Does it squeak intermittenly or constant? Wheel Bearing

Sound travels funny are you sure it is not parking brake show or spring?

Mine does the same. It comes and goes. No rhyme or reason for it. I'm thinking it's either a bushing or torsion bar. This winter I'm replacing both so we'll see if that fixes it.

Do you hear a creaking noise first or intermittently with the squeak?

Another thought is that if you have through the body sway bars, it might be either bushings or the bar rubbing on the gas tank.

Default squeaky 930

I plan on taking the Porsche out & listening for some squeaks. Just an update: when I drive the car down a hill with the engine off I still am getting the squeaks when there's any minor imperfection in the road, otherwise no squeak. It doesn't sound suspension related and it is fairly continuous from in front of the dashboard up in the right area. I've listened closely to both doors & cannot detect any squeaks. I'm going to have my wife drive the car & listen to see if it is any wheel bearing (while I ride my bicycle next to the car... I'll be careful) although I doubt it because it's such a quiet, almost white noise. But still annoying at lower speeds. Then I'll try listening to the dashboard fan while sitting in the front trunk. ;-)

thanks, everybody for your thoughts on this.

Mine used to make an annoying squeak only on low humidity days from the back somewhere over small bumps. You can't find it while driving so all I could do is turn on the radio to hide it.

One day when I shut the driver door I heard the squeak while standing outside the car. It came from the rear lid or something.

I wiggled the rear lid while latched (it does move side to side a couple few mm while latched) and it squeaked...

So I put some oil on the rear lid hinge pin joints and the squeak went away.
The little threaded rubber bumpers at the trailing edge of the deck lid are cheap to replace too.
Same ones were used on a BMW 2002.

Do you have the top slider on the heater controls all the way to the left? I used to have this annoying squeak that would come and go all the time. I used to set the top slider right in the middle to get max ventilation without turning on the fan. Well, sometimes it did turn it on and it drove me nuts trying to find it. Turns out the blower motor had a squeaky bearing.

I think my fan is now toast, it stopped working on the way to the track. I went to Snetterton with PCGB and hit 121mph on the long straight.

I have the through the body Weltmiester sway bar and it was the cause of my very occasional squeak. DonE and I took it all apart and oiled it and the squeak went away. The technique you mentioned above about pushing down on the front of the car does not cause the squeak to happen. There is something about twisting the whole front end that cannot be reproduced by pushing up and down on the front fender. I have coilover suspension and my car is like a f**king haunted house! I get all kinds of noise but it is never consistent. If it isn't a big deal then don't get too concerned about it. Enjoy your car and remember all of the guys out there who would give their left nut to have a 930 that squeaked.

To try and test the sway bars you would be better to stand beside the car near the doors/sunroof and push the roof backwards and forwards to simulate cornering.

I have a customer with a 1988 930 that had an anoying squeak coming from the area you are talking about. It turned out to be the switch for the trunk light. A little grease and it was quiet. It took a long time to find that one and I consider myself pretty good at fixing these type of issues. A slight movement of the trunk lid made it squeak.
